The Influence of Education on the Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of the

Loading-Unloading Workers in the Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment at
Tenau Harbor, Kupang.

TKBM is labor in the informal sector is not separated from the various
dangers when doing a job loading and unloading of goods. Hazard control has
been conducted by the Cooperative TKBM by providing PPE for each member
TKBM. Problems derived from the first observation of this study showed that
workers did not use PPE during work. So we need education activities with the
use of PPE throught running of a film method and demonstration method for
improving knowledge, attitudes and practices TKBM. This study aims to analyze
the effect of education via the use of PPE screening methods, and methods of
demonstration of knowledge, attitude and practice in Port Tenau TKBM Kupang.
This study is a quasi-experimental research. Population: 303 people with
a sample of 80 respondents. Respondents were divided into two treatment
groups. Samples taken from TKBM who worked on different ships, each ship in
the election with a simple ramdom sampling. Collecting data through observation
and interviews. Data analysis: paired sample t-test and test of independent
sample t-test.
The results showed that there were significant differences in knowledge
and attitude TKBM before and after the educational use of either APD or running
of a film methods with the method of demonstration. While the practice of the use
of PPE before and after education there is no significant difference. There is no
difference between running of a film method and demonstration method in
improving knowledge and practices concerning the use of PPE TKBM in the
workplace. The absence of changes in the practice of the use of PPE at TKBM
show needed to do some educational activities on a regular basis and need
further research to look at the factors associated with changes in the practice of
the use of PPE at TKBM.
