1. Established in 1935, co-optex was
previously known as “tamilnadu weaver’s
co-op. soc.”

2. Since 1935 itself, it started gaining


promiscous success in textiles and has a
very rich tradition in handlooms.

3. The essence of co-operatives was flickered


by co-optex 74 years ago.
Formation

co-optex
1. co-optex was primarily formed by
various skilled handloom weavers of tamil
nadu, who pooled their available resources
and gave a quick start to a small scale
business.

2. Their dedication and consistent hardwork paid


off, owing to which their business gained a
prominent pace during the coming years.
3. Moreover, this establishment,
gave a suitable platform for
many skilled weavers, who could
portray their talents in weaving
get paid in an appropriate manner.

4. In today’s date co-optex is a very


successful handloom co-op. soc.
With about 211 showrooms and a
turnover of rs. 461 crores.

Health insurance
scheme
1. The health insurance scheme aims
at financially enabling the weaver to access
the best of health care facilities in the
country.

2. The scheme aims at covering not only the


weaver but his wife and 2 children against
all pre-existing diseases as well as new
diseases.

The funding pattern is the
salient feature of this
scheme, which is done by
co-optex in collaboration
with the government.
1. Contribution by the govt. is rs.642.47/- per
anum (rs. 556.50 + st= rs. 85.97)

2. Contribution by co-optex on behalf of the


hAndloom weaver is rs. 139.13/- per anum.

3. Total premium sums up to rs. 781.60/- per


anum.
Eligibility
For availing
the
facility
1. All weavers whether male or
female, are eligible to be covered under the
health insurance scheme.

2. The scheme will cover the weaver’s family of


4 (self, spouse and 2 children)

3. The scheme is to cover the people between


age group of 1 day-80 years.
