WHEREAS, the Friends of Washington Park, Inc. intend to apply for a Hudson River Valley
Quadricentennial Legacy grant in the amount of $5,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the grant will be used for signage and a traveling exhibit narrating the 1860 Troy rescue
of slave Charles Nalle; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Washington Park, Inc. desire to accomplish this project at no cost to the
City of Troy; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Washington Park will partner in the project with the Underground
Railroad Workshop, the Rensselaer County Historical Society, and the Hudson Mohawk Industrial
Gateway; and
WHEREAS, the Friends of Washington Park will obtain matching funds and/or in-kind services that
are greater than or equal to the amount of the grant; and
WHEREAS, the grant application requires a supporting resolution from the legislative body of the
municipality in which the project will be undertaken; and
WHEREAS, the Troy City Council recognizes the importance of respecting our heritage through
projects that educate the public and draw visitors to our historical city.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Troy hereby supports
the Friends of Washington Park, Inc. and their application for a Hudson River Valley Quadricentennial
Legacy grant; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council appreciates and supports this project and the
collaborative efforts of the Friends of Washington Park, the Underground Railroad Workshop, the
Rensselaer County Historical Society, and the Hudson Mohawk Industrial Gateway.
