Army encounters NPA extortionists

Army troopers belonging to 5th Scout Ranger Company, 2nd Scout Ranger
Battalion encountered on Tuesday morning, November 30, 2010, at Bgy. Paloc,
Maragusan, Compostela Valley Province NPA rebels belonging to the communist’s
guerilla front 27. The NPA rebels were earlier reported to be extorting from each of the
the small miners operating in nearby Pamintaran area the amount of P50,000.00.

The firefight which started at around 6:30 A.M. lasted for around 50 minutes.
After the firefight, fleeing NPA rebels abandoned one of the bodies of their dead
comrades. Four Improvised explosive devices, food stuffs, subversive documents and
personal belongings were also discovered at the encounter site.

On the government side, three soldiers were slightly wounded caused by the
series of explosion of improvised explosive devises set off by the rebels. The three were
safely evacuated to Camp Panacan Station Hospital.

“The 10th will continue to reach out to the NPA rebels to embrace the peace and
friendship that we offer through our peace and development outreach program but we
will also be ready to conduct combat operation when there is an imminent threat to the
lives and economic activities of our people brought about by the presence of extorting
NPA rebels.” Lt. Col. Medel Aguilar, 10ID Spokesperson said.
