INTRODUCTION
Overview of the Amadeus FareXpert Filing Platform
Amadeus FareXpert Filing Platform is set of applications that enable real-time filing of any
type of private fares directly into the Amadeus database. For productivity and consistency
purposes, all these applications have been grouped under a unique browser based platform:
the Amadeus FareXpert Filing Platform.

A highly secured application


Amadeus FareXpert is designed on a 3-level security platform:
 User ID and password guarantees dedicated access to
Amadeus FareXpert with specific access rights for each Office Id level
Office ID;
• A given Office ID will have access only to specified
FareXpert products and with related restrictions

PC level
 A digital certificate (CID) guarantees that the application
cannot be installed on another PC only the one specified
by the customer;

 The digital certificate is linked to the Windows session of

the customer, preventing another person to log on the

HOW TO INSTALL AMADEUS FAREXPERT?


Before deploying Amadeus FareXpert, please FIRST check that your workstation:
• meets minimal technical requirements
• has the correct Java Runtime Environment installed
• has the correct network configuration to allow communication with Amadeus
• has a valid certificate identifier (CID) installed to use Amadeus FareXpert*
* To obtain a CID from Amadeus, please contact your Amadeus Representative and
request access to the Amadeus FareXpert Filing Platform.
Note: If you already have a valid Amadeus Selling Platform CID installed on your
workstation, you do not need to request another one for FareXpert.

Step 1 – Minimal technical requirements

Operating system Windows 2000 professional, Windows XP


Processor Minimum Pentium IV 1.5 GHz*
Recommended Pentium IV 2.8 GHz* or higher
RAM Minimum 512 Mb

Step 2 – Java Runtime Environment Installation


Before installing Amadeus FareXpert, you must have a Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) installed on your workstation. Amadeus FareXpert works only with JRE 6u7.

To find out which version of JRE you have:

1. Click on the menu Start>Settings>Control Panel>Java to open the Java

2. Click on the "Java" tab

3. Click on the lower "View" button to display the Java Application Runtime

If Product version 1.6.0_07 is not in the list, then please follow this procedure to
install the required version:

Download
If you don’t have JRE 6u7 on your computer, please download the JRE 6u07 version from
the following URL:
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/6u7/index.html then click on Download JRE

Then you want to select the Windows version and agree to the license agreement and
click on Continue.

Now you can download the setup file. We recommend that you get the Offline Installation
and that you should use the direct download link instead of Sun Download Manager so
please click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe

Please save this file on your hard drive and run it to install Java 6.

Step 3 – Network Configuration

Why do I need to configure my network?


FareXpert needs to establish communication:
• with the FareXpert website
• with Amadeus Central System

Depending on your network configuration, your firewall or proxy may block this
communication, thus preventing FareXpert from running correctly.

How can I configure my network?


Please, contact your network administrator and communicate the following information:

For Internet users:


• Connections to FareXpert URL: www.farexpert.amadeus.com via http(s) protocol
through the standard ports 80 and 443.
• Connections on port 24003 on native TCP/IP must be allowed to the IP address
82.150.229.129

For Intranet users:


• Connections to FareXpert URL: www.farexpert.amadeus.net via http(s) protocol
through the standard ports 80 and 443.
• Connections on port 24004 on native TCP/IP must be allowed to the IP address
194.76.166.93.

Moreover, some Proxy servers can be configured to block downloads of Java applications.
As a symptom, users under such a situation cannot even access the Launcher application.
For the record, here are the MIME types that must be allowed:
• application/x-java-archiv
• application/x-java-archive-dif
• application/x-java-jnlp-file
• application/x-java-jnlp-error

Is this communication secure?


Yes. The communication path has been designed to fully protect your data and network.
The communication between FareXpert and Amadeus Central System operates via a socket
level encryption derived from SSL.
There is no unsolicited message coming from Amadeus Central System. Each request
originates from the FareXpert application.

Step 4 – Install the certificate

1. From FareXpert Welcome page click on the 'Requirements' link on the left part of the
screen.

2. From the 'Security' paragraph click on the link to the 'Certificate Sites':

3. Follow the instruction to install the certificate:


- read the Instruction Documentation
- click on the Amadeus SSL Authority and click on “open” or “open this file from its
current location”
- enter the CID number given by your Amadeus sales representative and click on
“submit request”

Important note:
CID must be installed under the user's windows session and not under another one (such as
the administrator's session).

Step 5 - Run a test to confirm all is OK


1. Point your browser to the Diagnostic Tool link:
o Internet users: http://www.farexpert.amadeus.com/netapp/diagnostic.html
o Intranet users: http://www.farexpert.amadeus.net/netapp/diagnostic.html

2. Click on and then on the 'Start test' button.

If all is OK, you will see the following test result and summary:

Please note that the Diagnostic Tool will perform several tests that may help identifying any
problem you can encounter with FareXpert.

Step 6 – Launch Amadeus FareXpert application

• Go back to FareXpert Welcome Page and click on the button on the left
side of the screen.

On your first launch of FareXpert, you may have a message prompting you for the proxy
settings. Refer to your network administrator for the required values.

• The message below will be displayed:

This message ensures you that FareXpert has been signed by Amadeus Global Travel
Distribution S.A., which offers a secure and protected product via a certificate.
Please verify the message content. It should be the same as displayed in the example
above.

• Then click on "Start" to launch the FareXpert application.

• Finally, the sign-in window prompts for the user for the User ID and Password:

Once the user has been identified, the download process will start.

When Amadeus FareXpert is launched, you will have access to all the applications you have
ordered. Choose one application in the list and click on the “Continue” button.

Important note:
Once the user has launched the FareXpert portal for the first time you may need to wait up
to 6 hours for the Amadeus security process to be unlocked before being able to save data
within FareXpert.

How to report installation problems?

How to report functional problems?

Please open an incident and assign it to your first or second level help desk (Via ACSP for
customers or CRM Help Desk for ACOs).

What do you need to do if Amadeus Support asks you to “clear the


Java cache”?

To retrieve the cache content of Java Web Start: you should launch Java Web Start: click on
“Start”, then click on “Run…” and enter “javaws -viewer” in the field finally click on OK.

To clean the cache:


 You need to click on “Start”, then on “Settings”, “Control Panel” and “Java”. In the
“Temporary Internet Files” box, you have a button named “Settings”. If you click on it,
a popup will appear. Click on “Delete Files” button, tick all the boxes and click OK
several times to apply and close all windows.
 Alternatively, you can click on “Start”, then click on “Run…” and enter the following
command: “javaws -uninstall”.

Note: for Citrix users, please refer to the dedicated section below.

How can I check that my configuration is OK?

In order to check if your workstation is correctly configured to run FareXpert, please point
your browser to the Diagnostic Tool link:

• Intranet users: http://www.farexpert.amadeus.net/netapp/diagnostic.html

Run an Advanced Test as explained in the installation procedure above. This will show if
your configuration is good, or will report any problem.

How to find the log files?

You maybe asked by your support center to provide log files to help with reporting issues,
Firstly close Amadeus FareXpert before and follow the 3 steps below:

1) Check if the TMPDIR directory exists:


- Open the Control Panel (START-> Settings -> Control Panel);
- Find the “System” icon and click on it -> the “System properties” windows pops up;
- Go to the “Advanced” tab and click on the “Environment Variables”.

You should find the TMPDIR directory in the “User variables” as below.

If it does not exist, you need to create it -> click on new, put “TMPDIR” in the Name Field and
“%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp” in the Value Field.

2) Your "hidden files and folders" need to be "shown":


- Open the Control Panel (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel);
- Go to “Folder options” (if you do not find it, it is under the “Tools” menu);
- Click on the “View” tab;
- Make sure that under “Files and Folders/Hidden files and folders”, the "Show hidden files
and folders" option is selected (see after);

3) You can now search for the FareXpert log files:


- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt);
- Type “echo %TMPDIR”;
- Copy the address you get as output (see example below);

- Open a Windows Explorer (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer)
- Go to the folder indicated in the above address (here, C: -> Documents & Settings -> etc.)
- Scroll down until you find the FareXpert log files (encircled in blue in the next page
example)
- Check the files mentioning dates coherent with your problem
- Consider only the XML files (below in green) and not the LCK files (below in red)
- Attach the corresponding files to your PTR.

What happens when there are several certificates on a PC?


Amadeus FareXpert can work with several CIDs on one PC.
In case you encounter any problem, do not hesitate to contact your Amadeus Support
Center.

Can I install Amadeus FareXpert on a laptop?


Amadeus FareXpert can be installed on any type of PC, given the fact it meets the minimum
hardware requirements (see requirement page of www.farexpert.amadeus.com).

Notes for Citrix users


Citrix users can’t have a direct access to their local log files and Java Web Start cache, thus
a special control has been implemented.
When launching FareXpert through Citrix, the following dialog should pop-up:

The CopyLogs button allows copying the XML FareXpert logs to the user’s H drive, so that
they can be provided to Amadeus support for analysis.

The ClearCache button allows clearing the Java Web Start cache when requested to do so
by Amadeus support.
