NetMeeting Tutorial

NetMeeting adalah alat komunikasi yang tersedia dari Microsoft pada Windows 2000 dan Windows XP, meskipun
program ini dapat diinstal pada versi Windows. NetMeeting memungkinkan pengguna untuk berkomunikasi satu
sama lain atau mengatur konferensi kelompok melalui Internet.

       Persyaratan
    1. Anda dapat menjalankan Microsoft NetMeeting pada versi yang lebih tua banyak dari sistem operasi
Windows, termasuk Windows 98, ME, NT dan 2000. Anda juga akan membutuhkan koneksi internet serta kartu
suara dan mikrofon.
       Fitur
    2. NetMeeting memiliki banyak fitur yang dapat Anda gunakan untuk berkomunikasi dan berbagi informasi
dengan orang lain. Anda dapat mentransfer file dan menggunakan papan tulis dan alat lainnya untuk berkolaborasi
dengan orang lain. NetMeeting juga dapat bertindak sebagai telepon web sederhana untuk berkomunikasi dengan
orang lain yang menggunakan aplikasi yang sama.
       Mengaktifkan NetMeeting
    3. Jika Anda menjalankan Windows XP, NetMeeting perlu diaktifkan sebelum Anda dapat mulai menggunakan
program. Anda dapat mengakses wizard konfigurasi NetMeeting dengan mengetikkan "conf" ke opsi Run dari
menu Start. Klik tombol "Next" pada layar setiap setelah memasukkan informasi pribadi Anda, memilih daftar
direktori dan jenis koneksi anda. Anda juga akan perlu mengkonfigurasi jalan pintas dan pilihan volume sebelum
menyelesaikan wizard konfigurasi.
       Membuat Panggilan
    4. Ketika Anda memulai program, klik telepon kuning di sudut kanan atas untuk menempatkan panggilan.
Masukkan alamat IP dari orang yang ingin Anda hubungi. Sebuah alamat IP dapat ditemukan dengan mengklik
menu Help di aplikasi dan kemudian memilih "Tentang Windows NetMeeting".
       Menerima Panggilan
    5. Sebuah penerima akan melihat jendela muncul di layar dengan judul "NetMeeting - Panggilan Masuk" dengan
nama pengirim. Akan ada dua tombol yang tersedia untuk "Terima" atau "Abaikan" permintaan rapat. Penerima
akan perlu untuk klik "Terima" tombol untuk bergabung panggilan atau pertemuan.

NetMeeting for Online Collaboration

One way to host a meeting is to use a directory server.  The address for the DSU NetMeeting
directory server is netmeeting.dsu.edu

NetMeeting is a real-time net conferencing tool that integrates all the popular synchronous data communication
tools. 

video and audio conferencing -- see each other and talk to each other, works only
between two contacts at a time. In a group meeting with more than two, only the
first two that get connected with audio and/or video will be able to use audio/video.

whiteboard -- work as a team in a graphic workspace by drawing lines, shapes in


different colors. Can also copy and paste existing graphics and screenshots

chat -- text based, like most other Internet chat environment

file transfer (FTP) -- a standard FTP tool

program sharing -- Open an application program such as MS PowerPoint or Excel,


and allow everyone in the meeting to see and even edit the data displayed.

remote desktop sharing -- remotely control your own desktop

advance calling -- Internet-to-phone call, secure call

Persyaratan Sistem untuk NetMeeting
Client Side:

    1. 90 MHz atau lebih tinggi prosesor Pentium


    2. 16 MB RAM untuk Windows 95, Windows 98
    3. 24 MB RAM untuk versi Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3 atau versi yang diperlukan untuk memungkinkan sharing
program pada Windows NT.)
    4. MS Internet Explorer 4.01 atau yang lebih baru
    5. 28.800 bps atau modem yang lebih cepat, layanan jaringan digital terintegrasi (ISDN), atau lokal area network (LAN)
koneksi.
    6. Kartu suara dengan mikrofon untuk menerima audio
    7. Kartu suara dengan speaker untuk mengirimkan audio
    8. PC kamera untuk mengirim video, tidak diperlukan untuk menerima video

Sisi server:

    1. Sebuah direktori server diperlukan untuk memberikan layanan direktori yang memungkinkan pengguna untuk
menemukan NetMeeting satu sama lain di Internet atau intranet perusahaan. Perangkat lunak server direktori sekarang
dari Microsoft Situs Server 3.0, yang merupakan penerus ke Internet Locator Server 2.0 (ILS). Situs Server 3.0 adalah
termasuk dalam Windows 2000 server.
    2. DSU memiliki ILS dalam pelayanan sekarang. Nama server direktori netmeeting.dsu.edu. Locator layanan internet
menggunakan LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) untuk komunikasi client-server. LDAP adalah protokol untuk
mengakses layanan direktori on-line berjalan di atas TCP / IP.

Setting Up NetMeeting

1. Download salinan NetMeeting 3 dari http://www.microsoft.com/windows/netmeeting. Jika Anda menjalankan Windows


XP, masuk ke C: \ Program Files \ NetMeeting \ untuk menemukan dan double klik file conf.exe untuk memulai NetMeeting.
Jika Anda tidak dapat menemukan file di XP, pergi ke "Start "> "Cari"> "Untuk File dan Folder" dan masukkan "NetMeeting"
untuk mencari.

2. Double klik file yang didownload untuk memulai instalasi.

3. Layar pertama memberikan pengenalan fitur NetMeeting.


4. Klik "Next" dan jendela berikutnya meminta identitas dan alamat email Anda. Email Anda akan digunakan oleh orang lain
untuk menelepon Anda di NetMeeting.

5. Kotak dialog berikutnya memungkinkan Anda memasukkan server direktori default. DSU saat ini memiliki Internet
Locator Server (www.netmeeting.dsu.edu) dalam pelayanan. Masukkan www.netmeeting.dsu.edu untuk nama server.

 6. Pasangan berikut kotak dialog membiarkan Anda memeriksa kartu video Anda (untuk konferensi video) dan speaker /
pengaturan mikrofon (untuk konferensi audio). Jika Anda tidak memiliki aksesoris ini, cukup klik "Next" untuk melanjutkan.
Mereka TIDAK akan mempengaruhi penggunaan alat-alat lain seperti chatting, papan tulis, dan transfer file. Anda dapat
mengkonfigurasi ulang pengaturan audio dan video di kemudian hari.
7. Setelah Anda adalah melalui dengan / pengaturan audio video, klik "Finish" dan NetMeeting secara otomatis
memulai. Catatan: Anda adalah "TIDAK di sebut " namun pada saat ini. Untuk memanggil seseorang, Anda harus
menempatkan panggilan dengan mengklik tombol telepon atau memilih "New Call" di bawah "Panggilan" pada
menu bar.

Place a Call

1. After installation, you can immediately call a contact if you know she/he is on-line.

2. To place a call, click the telephone button    or select "New Call" from "Call" on the menu bar.

You can enter your contact's email address to call if your contact is logged in the same directory as you are.

To find out whether your contact is in the same directory, click the open book button (or select
"Directory" under "Call" from the menu bar) and you'll see the next window. Your contact should be listed
here if she/he is logged in the same directory. The address of the DSU neetmeeting directory server is:

netmeeting.dsu.edu
If your contact is not logged in the same directory, you can still call her by entering the IP address of your
contact's computer. Click here to learn about identifying IP address.

Once you have used NetMeeting, you contacts will be listed from the drop-down list box for your easy
access in the future.

3. If you have a PC camera, click the start video button    to let your camera capture scenes. The

picture-in-picture feature is available only when your contact also has a PC camera activated.

Click "audio volume"  to check your audio connections and adjust the volume. The audio volume

button is a toggle with "View Participant" , i.e. the button switches between "audio volume" and
"view participant".
4. When a call is placed, you'll see a pop-up window indicating the contacting status:

and the recipient will have a window pop up with the options to accept or ignore:

When the recipient clicks "Accept", the connection is established.


5. To avoid clicking "Accept" every time a call comes in, check "Automatically Accept Calls" under "Call"
from the menu bar.
Chat and Talk  

1. Once the connection is established between participants in a net meeting, the easiest and most reliable
communication channel is often chat. A chat session can be held among multiple participants. 

You can select "Chat" under "Tools" from the menu bar or click the chat button   to launch chat. In
the message box, type in your message. Then press Enter or click the chat button to send the message. The
message should immediately appear in the common message area. You can send a private message to an
individual rather than "Everyone in Chat" by clicking the drop-down arrow button for "Send To" and select
a contact from the list. 

2. Audio conferencing capability is automatically activated if the microphone and speaker boxes are checked,
as in the following screenshot. You can scroll to adjust the volume for the microphone and speaker.
3. NetMeeting can automatically adjust microphone volume while in a call. To check if this function is turned
on, select "Options..." under "Tools" from the menu bar. Then click the Audio tab. Check the box if it's not
checked. Note: like video exchange, audio exchange can take place only between two participants at a time,
i.e. the first two connected contacts.

Video

1. If you have a PC camera, click the start video button    or select "Video" under "Tools" from the

menu bar to send out video. The picture-in-picture feature is available only when your contact also
has a PC camera activated. When picture-in-picture is in use, your contact's video will be displayed in the
larger frame and your own in the smaller frame. Note: video exchange can take place only between two
participants. The video you're sending will be displayed only on the screen of the first connected contact.
2. Click "audio volume"  to check your audio connections and adjust the volume. The audio volume

button is a toggle with "View Participant" , i.e. the button switches between "audio volume" and
"view participant".
3. To adjust video screen size, go to "Tools" > "Video" > "Window Size". You can select 100%, 200%, or
300%.

4. You can adjust other settings for video by selecting "Options" under "Tools" on the menu bar, including
automated sending/receiving of video, image size, video quality, and video device.

5. If you click the Source button, you'll be able to adjust camera settings in brightness, contrast, color,
compression rate, etc.. Note: the Source button is available only when the PC camera is active.
Whiteboard
Whiteboard in NetMeeting is a graphic workspace that can be shared by a team across distance.

1. Draw Lines and Shapes

 Draw freehand lines with four choices of width


 Draw straight lines with four choices of width
 Draw filled and unfilled ellipses
 Draw filled and unfilled rectangles

2. Add Text and Color

 Add text
 Use colors for the lines, shapes and texts
 Highlight what's been drawn (with the highlighter)

3. Edit and Save Board Content

 Move what's been drawn (with the selector)


 Delete/erase what's been drawn (with the eraser)
 Have multiple pages coexist in a session
 Save board content for future session use

4. Integrate with Other Applications

 Paste any content from the clipboard (what's been copied into the temporary memory of your
computer)
 Copy and paste any window application interface (by clicking "Select Window" Button)
 Copy and paste an area of the desktop screen (by clicking "Select Area" Button)
 NetMeeting Whiteboard is T.126 compliant and is interoperable with other T.126 compatible
whiteboards. T.126 is the multipoint still image and annotation protocol defined by International
Telecommunication Union (ITU).

5. Groupware Functions

 Lock the board content so that others cannot change


 Point a particular object or area or text on board (with the remote pointer, i.e. the hand-shaped
button
 By default, everybody in a net meeting views the same board content at the same time. But you
select to look at or work on something out of view of the meeting participants. To do that, 
 click "Synchronize" (if it has a check mark to its left side) under "View" from the menu bar
to remove the check mark
 or simply click the "Unsynchronize" button    if it's beveled in. In the unsynchronized
mode, the button is up
You can launch Whiteboard by clicking the Whiteboard button    or selecting "Whiteboard" under "Tools"
from the menu bar.

Sharing Programs

1. To share an application program via NetMeeting, every participant needs a copy of that program installed
on their computer. Because when a program is shared, it needs to launch the required application software
on the participant's computer.

2. Click the share program button or select "Sharing" under "Tools" from the menu bar. The pop-up
window lists all the applications currently running on your computer. Select the program you want to share
and click the Share button, which is grayed out in the following figure because it has been clicked, thus the
program is being shared.
3. You can click the Allow Control button to grant participants control of the shared program, i.e. participants
can edit the data in the shared program. Participants will still need request data control if they want to edit
the data, and you grant control on an individual basis. If you'd like to grant control to every participant, you
can check the box "Automatically accept requests for control". 

4. You can change the program share setting any time during the session by clicking the Unshare or Unshare
All button.

5. Shared programs are viewed in a frame, which makes it easy to distinguish between shared and local
applications on your desktop. You can minimize the shared program frame and do other work if you do not
need to work in the current conference program. You can also choose to allow one person to work in the
shared program at a time.

File Transfer

You can transfer files to your contacts in NetMeeting using the built-in FTP tool.

1. Click the file transfer button  or select "File Transfer" under "Tools" from the menu bar. Click "Add
Files" and select the files from your local computer to transfer. You can select multiple files to transfer all
at once. You can choose to send the file(s) to everyone or to a particular participant.
2. On the recipient's end, a screen will pop up when a file arrives. If multiple files are transferred, multiple
windows will pop up, showing the arrival status.

Bandwidth and Personal Information Setting

1. Select "Options" under "Tools" from the menu bar, you'll see the Options window. Under the General tab,
you can click "Bandwidth" button to select an appropriate Internet connection: from 28 K modem to LAN
connection. You can also change the directory selected.
Build-In Help of NetMeeting

You can access the built-in help of NetMeeting any time by clicking "Help" on the menu bar. NetMeeting includes
comprehensive online help. The content is categorized into
