CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METODOLOGY

A. Purpose of the Study

The purpose of research is to improve students speaking skill through

drama technique at the eighth grade of SMPN ……………. to active in practicing

English speaking in class. It is expected that the students can enjoy to expressing

their ideas opinion and feeling and can match dialogue with situation and

condition. Besides that, they can also get fun in learning English in school

especially for learning English speaking.

B. The Place and Time of Study

The place of research of teaching speaking by using speaking skill of the

students through drama technique is at the eighth grade of SMPN

………………. This research will takes place for second semester from

December – February 2011.

The class under study is class VIII-1. Each class consists of thirty

students.

C. Method of the Research

In this research, the researcher uses the classroom action research. The

research connected in three cycles. Classroom action research method tends to

rules of speaking or how to improve the speaking English through drama

technique. Every cycle consists of four steps. They are :

1. Planning

2. Action

3. Observation

4. Reflection

D. Subject of the Research

The subject of the research is the students of eight grade of SMPN 3

Cisauk Tangerang. The researcher use the method and the technique teaching

speaking through drama technique.

E. Technique of Collecting Data

The technique of collecting data that is the researcher get the data from

the students especially for eighth grade of SMPN …………………. The

researcher attends to the data, which are the result of applying teaching

speaking through audiolingual method. The data was taked from:

1.Test

2.Observation

3.Interview

In the following section, the researcher explains about procedure of

teaching, speaking using drama technique. The procedure is dividing into four

stages. They are socializing drama script, individually or grouping, distributing

dialogue script, and asking question and asking giving answer. The researcher

gave speaking skill test before did the presentation of lessons material. After

giving the treatment, give the some test then made calculation of result from

both test. Trough the cycle I, cycle II, cycle III, and the next cycle if

necessary in accordance with the targets that would like to accomplish.

Each cycle consist of:

1. Planning

2. Acting

3. Observing

4. Reflecting

This research can discuss or collaborate with English Teacher and the others.
