‘A Two Component Lining with
a Thin Erosion Resistant Service
Lining Reinforced with Hexmesh
‘on Stand-off Assemblies
‘The systen iTustrated above has been used in service environnents where highly
erosive conditions were present and a lining with good insulating properties was
needed. The service or hot face lining consists of a dense erosion resistant
castable (usually a phos-bonded product) enbedded in hexnesh, and behind it, @
Tightweight insulating castable. The hexnesh is supported away from the vessel or
pipe shell with stand-off assenblies, usually spaced on 6" to 12" centers. Each
stand-off assembly is made up fron a threaded stud (usually 4" diameter) and a
threaded square washer (usually 2" x 2" x 4").
‘The stud is installed first, then the back-up insulating refractory is installed
and cut back to a level just below the tip of the stud. The washer is then screwed
‘onto the stud and the hexmesh is rolled, fitted and welded to the top face of the
washer. Finally, the erosion resistant refractory is installed in the hexmesh and
cut back flush with the face of the panels.
note:
Because of long term durability problens which result primarily fron the
differential rate of expansion between the hemesh reinforced service lining and
the back-up insulating lining, this style of two component lining system is no
Tonger widely used. It has been replaced, for the most part, by single component
linings of vee anchor reinforced, semi-insulating erosion resistant refractory
castables, as described in Section 3.1, or the two component lining system as
described’ in Section 3.2
