LEGENDA SIMARDAN Berbagai kisah dan cerita tentang legenda anak durhaka. Di antaranya, Malin Kundang di Sumatera Barat yang disumpah menjadi batu, Sampuraga di Mandailing Natal Sumatera Utara yang konon katanya, berubah menjadi sebuah sumur berisi air panas. Di Kota Tanjungbalai, akibat durhaka terhadap ibunya, seorang pemuda dikutuk menjadi sebuah daratan yang dikelilingi perairan, yakni Pulau Simardan. Berbagai cerita masyarakat Kota Tanjungbalai, Simardan adalah anak wanita miskin dan yatim. Pada suatu hari, dia pergi merantau ke negeri seberang, guna mencari peruntungan. Setelah beberapa tahun merantau dan tidak diketahui kabarnya, suatu hari ibunya yang tua renta, mendengar kabar dari masyarakat tentang berlabuhnya sebuah kapal layar dari Malaysia. Menurut keterangan masyarakat kepadanya, pemilik kapal itu bernama Simardan yang tidak lain adalah anaknya yang bertahun-tahun tidak bertemu. Bahagia anaknya telah kembali, ibu Simardan lalu pergi ke pelabuhan. Di pelabuhan, wanita tua itu menemukan Simardan berjalan bersama wanita cantik dan kaya raya. Dia lalu memeluk erat tubuh anaknya Simardan, dan mengatakan, Simardan adalah anaknya. Tidak diduga, pelukan kasih dan sayang seorang ibu, ditepis Simardan. Bahkan, tanpa belas kasihan Simardan menolak tubuh ibunya hingga terjatuh. Walaupun istrinya meminta Simardan untuk mengakui wanita tua itu sebagai ibunya, namun pendiriannya tetap tidak berubah. Selain itu, Simardan juga mengusir ibunya dan mengatakannya sebagai pengemis. Sebelum terjadinya peristiwa tersebut, Pulau Simardan masih sebuah perairan tempat kapal berlabuh. Lokasi berlabuhnya kapal tersebut, di Jalan Sentosa Kelurahan Pulau Simardan Lingkungan IV Kota Tanjungbalai, kata tokoh masyarakat di P. Simardan, H.Daem, 80, warga Jalan Mesjid P. Simardan Kota Tanjungbalai. Tanjungbalai, terletak di 20,58 LU (Lintang Utara) dan 0,3 meter dari permukaan laut. Sedangkan luasnya sekitar 6.052,90 ha dengan jumlah penduduk kurang lebih 144.979 jiwa (sensus 2003-red). Walaupun peristiwa tersebut terjadi di daerah Tanjungbalai, Daem mengatakan, Simardan sebenarnya berasal dari hulu Tanjungbalai atau sekitar daerah Tapanuli. Hal itu juga dikatakan tokoh masyarakat lainnya, Abdul Hamid Marpaung, 75, warga Jalan Binjai Semula Jadi Kota Tanjungbalai. “Daerah asal Simardan bukan Tanjungbalai, melainkan di hulu Tanjungbalai, yaitu daerah Porsea Tapanuli,” jelasnya. Dari berbagai cerita atau kisah tentang legenda anak durhaka, biasanya anak pergi merantau untuk mencari pekerjaan, dengan tujuan merubah nasib keluarga. Berbeda dengan Simardan, dia merantau ke Malaysia untuk menjual harta karun yang ditemukannya di sekitar rumahnya, kata Marpaung. “Simardan bermimpi lokasi harta karun. Esoknya, dia pergi ke tempat yang tergambar dalam mimpinya, dan memukan berbagai macam perhiasan yang banyak,” tutur Marpaung. Kemudian,

Kedatangannya ke Tanjungbalai, menurut Daem, untuk berdagang sekaligus mencari bahanbahan kebutuhan. Kalau menurut Marpaung, Simardan datang ke Tanjungbalai dilandasi karena tidak memiliki keturunan. Jadi atas saran orang tua di Malaysia, pasangan suami isteri itu pergi ke Tanjungbalai. Lebih lanjut dikatakan Marpaung, berita kedatangan Simardan di Tanjungbalai disampaikan masyarakat kepada ibunya. Gembira anak semata wayangnya kembali ke tanah air, sang ibu lalu mempersiapkan berbagai hidangan, berupa makanan khas keyakinan mereka yang belum mengenal agama. “Hidangan yang disiapkan ibunya adalah makanan yang diharamkan dalam agama Islam,” tutur Marpaung. Dengan sukacita, ibu Simardan kemudian berangkat menuju Tanjungbalai bersama beberapa kerabat dekatnya. Sesampainya di Tanjungbalai, ternyata sikap dan perlakuan Simardan tidak seperti yang dibayangkannya. Simardan membantah bahwa orang tua tersebut adalah wanita yang telah melahirkannya. Hal itu dilakukan Simardan, jelas Marpaung, karena dia malu kepada isterinya ketika diketahui ibunya belum mengenal agama. “Makanan yang dibawa ibunya adalah bukti bahwa keyakinan mereka berbeda.” Sementara menurut H. Daem, perlakuan kasar Simardan karena malu melihat ibunya yang miskin. “Karena miskin, ibunya memakai pakaian compang-comping. Akibatnya, Simardan tidak mengakui sebagai orangtuanya.” Setelah diperlakukan kasar oleh Simardan, wanita tua itu lalu berdoa sembari memegang payudaranya. “Kalau dia adalah anakku, tunjukkanlah kebesaran-Mu,” begitulah kira-kira yang diucapkan ibu Simardan. Usai berdoa, turun angin kencang disertai ombak yang mengarah ke kapal layar, sehingga kapal tersebut hancur berantakan. Sedangkan tubuh Simardan, menurut cerita Marpaung dan Daem, tenggelam dan berubah menjadi sebuah pulau bernama Simardan. Para pelayan dan isterinya berubah menjadi kera putih, kata Daem dan Marpaung. Hal ini disebabkan para pelayan dan isterinya tidak ada kaitan dengan sikap durhaka Simardan kepada ibunya. Mereka diberikan tempat hidup di hutan Pulau Simardan. “Sekitar empat puluh tahun lalu, masih ditemukan kera putih yang diduga jelmaan para pelayan dan isteri Simardan,” jelas Marpaung. Namun, akibat bertambahnya populasi manusia di Tanjungbalai khususnya di Pulau Simardan, kera putih itu tidak pernah terlihat lagi. Di samping itu, sekitar tahun lima puluhan masyarakat menemukan tali kapal berukuran besar di daerah Jalan Utama Pulau Simardan. Penemuan terjadi, ketika masyarakat menggali perigi (sumur). Selain tali kapal ditemukan juga rantai dan jangkar, yang diduga berasal dari kapal Simardan, kata Marpaung.
