• Stabilization exercises eliminate the repetitive microtrauma of lumbar intervertebral disc which occurs

due to repetitive flexion and torsion stress and the gradual prolapsed of the disc.
• This limits injury that has occurred and allowing healing to take place.
• Stabilization is accomplished through coordinated use of the trunk and proximity extremity
musculature in order to limit microtraumatic motions during activity.
• This musculature also absorbs external forces otherwise directly transmitted to the motion segment.

Progression of Dynamic Muscular Stabilization Exercises
1) Identifying the back’s neutral position in sitting & standing positions
2) Performing supine pelvic bracing, after which patients progress to dynamic abdominal bracing
3) Perform prone gluteal squeezes, after which patients progress to unilateral leg lifts, then bilateral
