Solution (ii)

The process of uprigthing stabilizing is due to the movement of water

inside the tank.
The above view are the stern view of a ship.

a) The vessel roll to the starboard side the water is moving to direction
shown
b) Ship roll to the port the in the tank starboard side provide a moment
opposing the roll velocity.
c) Ship at the end of its roll to port the water is providing no movement
to the ship
d) Ship roll to starboard water in the tank on portside provide a
moment opposing the roll velocity.

(5marks)

Solution iii)

Stiff ship is ship that has a very short rolling period

A tender ship is a ship that has a very long rolling period

(5 marks)

Solution (iv)

A stable ship has a positive GM the point of gravity is below metacentric

point has a righting moment as to upright the vessel

An unstable ship has a negative GM the point of gravity is above the

metacentric point .Vessel has no righting moment and it can caused the
vessel to be capsized
