    • In FY2010 Minnesota spent $21.5 million on tobacco prevention, which is 36.8% of the CDC
    Annual Spending Target.1

    • The CDC estimates that 50.1% of adult smokers in Minnesota tried to quit smoking in
    2008.2

    • Minnesota received an estimated $572 million in tobacco settlement payments and taxes
    in FY2010.3

    • Minnesota is not part of the Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) dollars.4

    Excise Tax: There is a tax of $1.56 per pack on cigarettes.

    Clean Indoor Air Ordinances


    • Smoking is prohibited in all child care centers, health facilities, schools, restaurants,
    bars, private workplaces, and government buildings.

    Youth Access Laws


    • The minimum age requirement for the purchase of tobacco products is 18, and penalties
    exist for both minors and merchants who violate this law.

    • Only sales clerks are allowed access to tobacco products prior to sale.
