Pail o’ Pockets

by Nancy Zieman

Give a bucket some extra carrying power with the Pail o’ Pockets. If you love gardening,
but can’t seem to keep your tools all in one place, here’s the perfect solution. One towel
—plus a little cording and some sewing ingenuity—are all that’s needed. For a great gift,
attach a Pail o’ Pockets to a bucket and fill the pockets with gardening supplies such as a
spade, gloves, and seeds. It’s sure to brighten any gardener’s day!

Supplies:

• One tightly woven hand towel, approximately 20" x 30" (50.8 x 76.2 cm)
• Cording (amount varies with size of pail)

Directions:

1. Fold towel in half, meeting short ends. Cut along fold.

2. Clean finish cut edges of both sections by pressing under 1/4" (6 mm); then press
under another 1/4" (6 mm). Edgestitch hems.
3. Form top casings by pressing under 1" (2.5 cm). Edgestitch.
4. Form pockets on each section by turning up 7"-8" (17.8 cm-20.3 cm) from the
bottom hemline, varying size according to height of pail.
5. Edgestitch sides of pockets; divide pockets, creating and stitching pockets of
various widths. Bartack or reinforce stitching at top of each pocket.

6. Thread cording through both casings. Position and tie cording in lip of pail to hold
pockets in place.
