Topic:

Cancer is one of leading causes of death worldwide today with survival rates improving for
many types of cancer, thanks to improvements in cancer screening and cancer treatment.
Diagnosing cancer at its earliest stages by screening tests for certain cancers often provides
the best chance for a cure. The current presentation will throw light on how the oncologist can
establish a thorough diagnosis with the aid of physical examination, laboratory
investigations including urine and blood tests, imaging tests including CT scan, bone
scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and X-ray; and biopsy. The presentation
will further highlight cancer stages, and how the oncologist determines the treatment options
including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, stem cell transplant and chances for a
cure. Certain identified potential ways of reducing cancer risk by lifestyle modifications will
also be discussed.
