Recount Text

Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain
the audience. There is no complication among the participants and that differentiates from narrative

Generic Structure of Recount

1. Orientation: Introducing the participants, place and time

2. Events: Describing series of event that happened in the past

3. Reorientation: It is optional. Stating personal comment of the writer to the story

Language Feature of Recount

• Introducing personal participant; I, my group, etc

• Using chronological connection; then, first, etc

• Using linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc

• Using action verb; look, go, change, etc

• Using simple past tense


EXAMPLE
On Wednesday, my my student and I went to Yogyakarta. We stayed at Dirgahayu Hotel wich a
not far from Malioboro.

On Thursday we visite the temples in Prambanan. There are three big temples, the Brahmana,
Syiwa and Wisnu temples. They are really amazing. We arevisited only Brahma and Syiwa temples,
because Wisnu temples iis being renovated.

On Friday morning w went to Yogya Kraton. We spent about two hours there. We were lucky
because we were led by a smart and friendly guidge. Thenwe continued our journey to Borobudur.
We arrived there at four p.m. At 5 p.m. we heard and announcement that Borobudur gate would be
closed.

In the evening we left for Jakarta by Wsata bus,
