Time for Alberta MLAs to protect

property rights

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 23, 2011 - The Alberta legislature is set to
reconvene today - and we certainly hope that MLAs
have listened to their constituents during the past
several weeks. With the PC party leadership still up
in the air, now is the time to reach out to voters and
assure them that their concerns have been heard.

"Over the past several years, Alberta's provincial

government has systematically targeted property
owners' rights," says Peter Coleman, President and
CEO of the National Citizens Coalition. "The only way
to show Albertans that they are serious is to repeal
Bills 19, 24, 36 and 50.

Together, these Bills completely erode property

owners' rights and give Cabinet the authority to
determine land uses. Fair compensation for
expropriated property has been completely
abandoned, and citizens who have been wronged
can no longer appeal to the courts - Cabinet has
declared itself to be the final authority.

"We want to see these Bills repealed without delay,"

adds Coleman. "The NCC is launching a major
initiative in Alberta, starting with radio commercials
to educate citizens about these Bills and to have
them repealed."

At nationalcitizens.ca, citizens can sign our petition

and send their comments directly to their MLA. "It is
time to turn up the heat - attach your own comments
to our petition and make sure your MLA is on the hot
seat," says Stephen Taylor, Director of the National
Citizens Coalition. To do so, visit nationalcitizens.ca
and explore 'A Better Alberta.'

"If Alberta's politicians continue to target property

rights, then it is time for new leadership," adds
Taylor. "They need to learn that property rights are
off-limits - these Bills are an embarrassment to
Alberta."
