• Plants also need to protect themselves from

enemies.
• The ways in which plants protect themselves from
enemies are as follows.
 Producing poisonous substance
 Producing sticky latex
 Having thorns
 Having fine hairs
 Having thick and hard bark
 Producing bad smell
 POISONOUS SUBSTANCES
BAHAN BERACUN

• Producing poisonous substances that cause sickness

or death when eaten
Menghasilkan bahan beracun yang boleh
menyebabkan sakit atau kematian apabila dimakan
• Example: Mushroom, pong-pong fruit, wild yam plant
Cendawan, buah pongpong, keladi liar
 STICKY LATEX
GETAH YANG MELEKIT

• Producing sticky latex that can cause itchiness or is

poisonous
Menghasilkan getah yang melekit yang boleh
menyebabkan kegatalan atau beracun
• Example: Jackfruit tree, papaya tree
– Jackruit trees produce latex in their fruits
Pokok nangka menghasilkan getah dalam buahnya
– Papaya leaves produce latex to prevent itself from being
eaten
Daun betik menghasilkan getah untuk mengelakkannya
daripada dimakan.
 SHARP THORNS
DURI YANG TAJAM

• Having thorns on their stems, leaves or fruits that cause injury

to the enemies.
Mempunyai duri pada batang, daun atau buah yang boleh
menyebabkan kecederaan pada musuhnya.
• Example: Pineapple plant, rose plant, durian tree
Buah nenas, pokok bunga ros, pokok durian
– Pineapple plants have thorns on their leaves and fruits.
Buah nenas mempunyai duri pada daun dan buahnya.
– Rose plants have sharp thorns on their stems.

BULU HALUS

• Having fine hairs on stems, leaves or fruits that can

cause itchiness when touched.
Mempunyai bulu halus pada batang, daun atau
buah yang boleh menyebabkan rasa gatal apabila
disentuh.
• Example: Bamboo plant, sugar cane, pumpkin plant

 THICK AND HARD BARK
BATANG YANG BERKULIT TEBAL DAN KERAS

• Thick and hard bark to protect the plants from

enemies
Mempunyai batang yang berkulit tebal dan keras
untuk melindungi pokok daripada musuh
• Example: Coconut tree, rubber tree, shorea tree

avoid being eaten by animals
