BAB VI
Master Production Scheduling
A.Summary

A master production schedule is a plan for production, staffing, inventory, etc. It is

usually linked to manufacturing where the plan indicates when and how much of each
product will be demanded. The Master production Schedulling Activity has a fundamental
role of the MPS is converting disaggregated sales and operations plan into a spesific
manufacturing schedule. The MPS specifies how product will be supplied to meet future
demand. We stress the fact that the MPS is not a forecast, since manufacturing is held
responsible for meeting the MPS requirements.
The MPS translates the business plan, indcluding forecast demand, into a production
plan using planned orders in atrue multilevel optional component schedulling environment.
Using MPS helps avoid shortage, costly expediting, last minute scheduling, and inefficient
allocation of resources. Working with MPS allows bussinesses to consolidate planned parts,
produces master schedules and forecasts for any level of the bill material for any type of part.
The MPS is stated in product specifications- in part numbers for wh ich there are bills of
materials (BOM). And to converting the options, parts, and components into specific end
product would be controlled by a separate final assembly schedule(FAS). In sales and
operations planning, the forecasts from demand management will be conslidated and
incorporated into the sales and operation plan. The final assembly schedule(FAS) states the
exact set of end products to be build over sometimes period. It’s the schedule that serves to
plan and control final assembly and test operations. In the conclusions, the master production
schedule plays a key role in manufacturing planning and control systems. An effective MPS
ultimately will:
• Give production, planning, purchasing, and management the information to plan and
control manufacturing
• Tie overall business planning and forecasting to detail operations
• Enable marketing to make legitimate delivery commitments to warehouses and
customers
• Increase the efficiency and accuracy of a company's manufacturing
