Boiler - Furnace

DO'S & DON’TS


Check all mountings, drains & vents,
instrument points, stubs are healthy in
all respect - no cracks, straightness,
erosion, corrosion, clean.

Check refractory condition of furnace
floor, walls, peep hole, superheater,
convection bank, studded baffle wall
gap

Ensure soot blower lance nozzles `are
located between two tubes.
Boiler Furnace Do’s


Ensure furnace is clean.

Check for tube thickness and other
NDT requirements.

Check for deposition of soot or
other unburnt combustibles.

Water wash the furnace if required
periodically as per water wash
procedures.
Boiler Furnace Don'ts

Do not light up the boiler with
leaking furnace.

Do not continue firing if furnace
pressure is not available or any
safeties pertaining to furnace are
bypassed - furnace pressure high
transmitters or switches.

Do not continue firing with leaky
burner nozzles or with secondary
firing on furnace walls / floor / roof.
 Economiser - Do’s

Ensure proper internal cleaning of
the economiser.

Check drains & vent valves leaks

Ensure seal welding of casing.

Ensure tube spacing / erosion /
corrosion of tubes / seal plates.

Ensure the insulation is intact

check fixed and sliding supports.

Ensure proper sealing of all doors.
Economiser - Don'ts


Do not continuously operate
leaking economisers.

Do not let excessive soot deposit
on economiser tubes.

Do not operate economiser’s
without soot blowers.

Do not operate econmisers with
throttled dampers.
 Electric Motor’s - Do’s

Ensure foundation bolts are tight
before and after alignment.

Ensure alignment of motor and driven
equipment prior to trial run

Ensure grouting of foundation bolts
and base frame.

Ensure double earthing of motor

Ensure bearings are cleaned &
lubricated with correct lubricants.
Electric Motor’s - Do’s


Ensure freeness of shaft.

Check insulation resistance of
motor winding.
 Electric Motor’s - Don'ts

Do not use tools other then pliers or
wrench to tighten cable terminals, use
only right sized ring / box spanners.

Do not run the motor if shaft is not free or
if any abnormal sound from inside the
motor.

Do not run the motor without checking IR
value of windings.

Do not touch motor terminals without
ensuring power supply isolated.
