and DENVER “SUB.A’ j PORE DRES are treated by flotation than by any other single process. Nonmetalics ax well as metallies now being commercially r pele and reagents. While many types of a « flotetion froth and cause some seperation, its necessa 40 have flotation cells with the correct fundamental pri +e advantages, is moder- dization and quantity production. there is a deiinic mechanical or metal- lurgical reason behind the construction of every part of the Denver "Sub-A," as explained in specifica- tions on the following pages: atl ot ALL STEEL CONSTRUCTION ‘Tho tank for the-Denvar “Sub-A" Flotation Ma: is mado of heavy stool . . . joi electric n plates are furnished with fanged for belting to partition channels 30 all of the plates can be changed at any in the field fo provide either a right or left hand Right hand machine is standard and will be furnished unless otherwise noted. ‘The stool superstructure for mounting the shaft assem- blies consists of a heavy structu idly braced and arranged 0 that minimum headroom is re- quired. Proper design positively minimizes vibration in ‘operation, and consiruction of the machine as a solf. contained unit eliminates the necessity for any costly or elaborate foundation. Denver "Sub-A" Flotation Machines are also available in wood tank construction, especialy suitable for corrosi Circuits. These machines can be supplied with modifien. fons s0 that they are ideal for use in special applications. All cells are placed at a common floor, level and due to the gravity flow principle of Denver "Sub-A” Flo- ines almost any number of cells can be used in ony circuit at one elevation without the necestity of pumpt or elevators to handle the flow from one machi 40 the next. Operation and supervision is thus simplified. For export shipments al of the items for the flotation machine are packed, bra steal fank so that minim delivery of parts without damage is thus assured. BEARINGS AND HOUSING ‘The shaff and impeller of the Denver "Sub. supported in an enclosed ball bearing housing designed to propery carry and maintain the rotating Both the upper and’ the lower friction bearings are seated in fect alignment and protector ease seals to provent gf al: lubrication W only nceded about ones a Over twonty thousand of these Htandard be daily use on Denver "'Sub-A" Coll, giving co service and low horsepower. STATIONARY HOOD The hood, which is located near the bottom of the call, is an important part of the assembly as it serves @ umber of purposes. The vanes on this hood prevent swiling of the pulp in the cell, producing a quist action jon zone. The hoed also supports the hood wearing plate. flotation is drawn down the stationary ‘tandpipe which eliminates the expense of blowers, air- pipes, and valves, as wel as giving direct passage of air 40 the top of the rotating impeller. The wearing plate is bolted to the bottom of the hood and prevents the im peller from being buried by pulp when the machine is shut down. {4} RECEDED DISK IMPELLERS Conical disk impéllers and wearing plates have"bet improved to a type termed "receded disk impellers and diffuser wearing plates.” These ports have been-proved in commercial installations for several years and are one of the most important developments made in the Denver "Sub-A" Flotation Machin ‘The receded disk impellers and diffuser wearing plates are furnished with all machines unless otherwise specified The advantages of these parts 2s follows: |. Have permitted the increased speed of the jim- peller without any incroae in hortepower. 2. Give more aeration with an accompanying gfeafer diffusion of 3. Athigher speeds the air is in a more finely divided slate as the bubbles are smaller, and the added eeration rtults in a deeper froth column, 4. Require loss operating atten n._particularly to- ward the end of the machine with a uniform active cell. ‘s hold at a minimum and at the same time the air is finely dispersed throughout the pulp to that the cell surface presenis the appearance of a smooth and quiet blenket of froth conducive to good fletation. Molded rubber parts are recommended due to their lighter weight, perfect balance, and longer life. In keeping with a long established policy, itis possible ‘0 use these parts on any Denver "Sub-A”" Flotation Ma- chine irrespective of age without the necessity of m. ‘any major changes, thus adhering to tho Standard Denver policy of "no yearly models but continually improving.” CONICAL DISK IMPELLERS The conical dick impellers and wearing plates, osu trated, aro obtainable. for all sacs of machines, The conicsi dik impellers and wearing plates have been used in Denver "Sub-A" Fotation Machines for many year but ore rapidly being replaced by the receded dit im poles ond. difurers for general purposes. The conical impellers are recommended for Denver Unit Flotation Calls and applications such as the trestment of dense pulp and coarse material. Diameters ofall impellers have 2 definite relationship fo call sane thus inning uniform Ciretlation of the. pu. LONG LIFE WEARING PARTS The maintenance cost on wearing parts in many large plants has been reduced to a minimum due to the use of molded rubber parls, which are available for al sizes of Denver “Sub-A" Flotation Machines in either the receded disk oF conical disk type. Data from large operations have shown that the life of rubber parts is from siz to fifteen fimes longer than the life of hard iron wearing parts. The slightly greater {5} sagan E Spat 5 = ste oteeeve Fees wer ficwcucarwe | witrusen J aaceDeo | Ses Bae DISRIMPELLER cost of these parts js therefore more than offset by the longer life. The advantages gained not only in lows ‘maintenance but also in reduction in horsepower (because of the lower coefficient of friction when using molded rubber impellers) make them most economical. Both re- coded disk and conical disk wearing parts able in special glass hard alloy iron. INTERIOR CELL DESIGN Cell ly into the coll and consist of four ‘cast iron side liners and a rubber bottom liner. Th bottom liner is held down at th ‘and in the conter by mes ‘trated. The bottom liner consits of 2 pound si firmly bonded to a steel backing 40 that it does not rip or blister. ‘A small recirculation gate is provided near the top of each call so that if de n of the pulp can bbe removed from the middling zone and returned to the impeller for retreatment. This recirculation feature influe tences the production of high grade concentrates in some cases. A gate is provided for this recirculation opening so that an adjustment of the zone and amount of recireu- lation can be varied, IMPELLER ASSEMBLY ‘The impeller assembly, consisting of steel shaft, totally rubber com- ‘enclosed spindle bearing, standpipe, hood, wearing plate, ‘and impeller, fits easly into the cell as a unit, Diffuser and receded disk impellers, as ilustrated, are furnished but conical disk impellers can be used if desired. The hood rests on comers of the cell side liners and is provided with keystone plug plates in front and back with recirculati ‘openings. These recirculation openings in the plug plates can be opened, closed or bushed to smaller sizes at d sired. The keystone plug plate can be removed to provide {an opening to the impeller for the return of middlings or feed, by means of a return feed pipe which i eat placed fo fit between the hood and front or back plate of the call. Openings are provided in the front of each cell for the return of middiings ints any cell by gravity cr these openings can be used to introduce feed into the cell if desired. ADJUSTMENT OF IMPELLER ‘Adjustment of the impeller is easly and quickly accom- plished from the rear of the machine by means of the threaded rod holding the end of the spindle bearing hour- ing (se0 ilustration at left). Proper adjustment of a clearance between impeller and wearing plate tant, and is eatly doe by losening the bats holding the spindle bearing housing and raising or lowering the entire housing by means of the adjustment: provided by thie threaded rod. After the proper clearance is secured the housing is tightened in place. Guides on each bearing housing keep rotation of impeller in perfect alignment ‘and make vertical adjustment easy. {6} TYPES OF DRIVES ‘The Denver “Sub-A" was the fist flotation machine to use the Mulf-¥-Belt Horizontal Drive, which has proved so successful. Denver "Sub-A" (Fahronwald) Flotation Cells have bean carefully designed to be driven either by.a motor and V-belts or by V-belt to & main dr In the motor driven type the impeller shafts are by V-belts, sheaves, and vertical ball bearing type of drive is much more economical and desirable than 2:direct motor driven unit because it makes any speed range available and dost not require a special motor shaft ossembly. ‘The standard drive on all flotation machines of an even number of cell is one motor driving two cells through Vebelt drives. Ifan odd number of coll is dered, a drive which wil prove most economical in first cost and provid. the greatest operating efficiency, will be furnished. justment of belt tension ie provided for in the motor ‘mounting eee illustration at bottom of opposite page). PADDLESHAFT DRIVE The paddleshaft drive is taken gonorally from the last impeller shaft by means of V-belt drive to a speed re- ducer, which in turn drives the paddleshaft at sow speed. ‘The quick removal of the mineral froth, in the form of a 0s the recovery; quick removal of this ry important on gold ores, and when .de concentrate is desired, the rotating peddloe ‘can be regulated to the detired radius. POSITIVE PULP LEVEL CONTROL Every Denver "Sub-A" Coll is actually an individual flotation machine with its own pulp level, controlled by its weir overflow. Correct flotation requires this positive pulp lovel control in each cell even though thi adjustment ‘when once made is infrequently changed. There are t methods of regulating the pulp level WEIR BLOCKS, as illustrated, slide easly into place at the woir, and consist of wood slats held down by moans of a steel wearing bar.
