Activities of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels have caused the concentration of heat-trapping ‘greenhouse gases’ fo increase significantly. The levels of gases are increasing at a faster rate than at any time in hundreds of thousands of years. Increases in global temperatures will most likely change our planet's climate in ways that will have significant long term effects on people and the environment such as higher temperatures, changes in precipitation pattems, rising sea levels, and more frequent weather-related disasters.
