Index Notation
A number written in index notation, is made up of two parts, namely
the base and
the index ( plural: indices).
The word “index” is commonly known as “power of”

Example: 16 = 24 [ 2 is the base]


[ 4 is the index or power. It shows the number of twos
to be multiplied together. In this case, 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 ]

Laws of Indices
Basic operations, such as multiplication and division, involving numbers written in index
notation, can be carried out using the following set of laws:
