Amazing Structures

A stunned face is all you can do after you see these structures. These
buildings are enormous, some from the ancient world, some from the
modern world. Arecibo is the world’s largest radio telescope. It is one
thousand feet across. It was opened in 1963, and since then, it has been
used to study distant stars and galaxies. The Torre Agbar tower in Spain is
cooled by letting hot air rise naturally up and out of the building. Reichstag
parliament building uses the mirrors on the buildings to reflect sunlight to
heat the building. The gherkin is a cone-shaped tower in London. During the
summer, shafts in the floors let air out, but during winter, the sun’s rays are
trapped inside the building. Do you want to get a big scare this year? If so,
go to the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas. This tower is 1,149 foot tall and it
is home to the world’s highest thrill rides. These rides are scare but safe.
Hong Kong is a really crowded place. That’s why they filled space between
two islands to make the land bigger. Fifty thousand people work here and 45
million people use this airport each year. There’s an artificial island in Dubai
called The World. From bird view, it looks like a giant palm tree. With
technology advancing ever so quickly, there will be more advanced buildings
in the future. Shanghai is a fast-growing city, and city planners are trying to
make room for their immense population. In the future, their planning to
build a tower, but like a tree. It’s a tower, and it has roots to support its
weight. Also, the tower would be surrounded by a lake, which would absorb
the vibrations caused by earthquakes.
