SKILL LEVEL: Advance Beginner

MATERIALS:
- One Skein –Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn! or approximately
375 yards worsted weight yarn for slouchy fit, 280 yards for
toque fit
- Size J Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle

GAUGE
2 shells =approx. 4 inches
2 rows= approx. 1 ¼ inches
XL SLOUCHIER FIT (16 rows/12 shells)
SPECIAL STITCHES

4 (5,9) DCTOG – *yo, insert yarn in stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo


and pull through 2 loops, repeat from * 3 (4,8) more
times more, yo and pull through all loops on hook.
FPDC – Work dc, only instead of inserting in top of next stitch,
work around the “stem” of next stitch (insert hook
from the right to left through the FRONT around the
back of the stitch).
BPDC - Work dc, only instead of inserting in top of next stitch,
work around the “stem” of next stitch (insert hook
from the right to left through the BACK around the
front of the stitch).

dc], repeat from *, ending with 5 DCTOG over [last 4 dc and 1 ch].

ROW HAT INSTRUCTION NOTES


5 CH 1 and turn. Skip first sc, *skip 4 ch, 9 DC in top of 9 dctog, skip 3 ch, 1 SC in sc,
repeat from *, working last SC in 1st ch of turning chain from previous row.
6-12 Repeat rows 2-5. (END WITH ROW 4. For extra slouchy/longer hat, repeat to
row 14 or 16)

 Turn hat inside out (wrong side facing you)

 JOIN outer edges to form tube by alternating slip stitch and 1 chain OR fasten off at this point and
join with a whip stitch using a tapestry needle. (FIG. 7 - 8)

 With tapestry needle (do this with yarn doubled), weave yarn through spaces in row one and then
pull tight. Continue to sew any openings closed across very top of hat and then fasten off. (FIG. 9-
10)

TRIM

 Turn hat to RIGHT SIDE, join with slip stitch at seam along bottom edge of hat.

 CH 2 (does not count as dc), *2 DC in chain space, 1 DC in sc, 2 DC in chain space, 1 dc in center of
shell. Repeat around circumference of hat, joining with sl stitch in beginning turning chain. DO
NOT TURN WORK. (FIG. 11-12)

 CH 2 (does not count as dc), *2 fpdc around next 2 dc, 2 bpdc around next 2 dc. Repeat around,
ending with sl st in turning chain. DO NOT TURN. REPEAT THIS ROW 8 MORE TIMES. FASTEN OFF.
