• Microsoft’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Skype brings the value of


worldwide tech-related M&A to $85.5 billion, the strongest
annual start for M&A in the sector since 2000.

• The acquisition of Skype is the largest M&A deal in Microsoft’s


history, besting the acquisition of aQuantive for $6.1 billion in
2007. The deal also marks the largest M&A transaction involving
tech companies announced this year.

• Goldman Sachs, an advisor to Skype along with JP Morgan,


leads the year-to-date ranking for worldwide tech M&A with
$29.8 billion from 16 deals.
