What am I seeing?

The maps display where Lloyd District workers live in Portland. The darker blue areas have
more residences for Lloyd workers. The radar plot below show the distance and direction of
these homes from the workplace. Commuters are largely coming from the east and south to
arrive at work in the Lloyd District. Almost 60% of workers are within a bike-able distance of 10
miles or less. The red stars on the map are proposed bicycle improvement projects that are
part of the Lloyd District Bikeway Improvement Program.

Why was this map created?

The Sullivan’s Gulch Trail Committee is developing a series of commute analyses to show the
demand for cycling along the trail’s alignment.

Where did the data come from?

The Census Bureau has been developing a series of tools to better understand where jobs and
workers are in the US. This dataset is based on payroll data collected by individual states
through unemployment insurance programs. The data includes all workers that pay into that
system. It excludes Federal employees and the self employed. So this data under counts totals.
