Instructions: Write three simple, three compound and three complex sentences about the
following theme:

         LIFE AT UNIVERSITY

Simple Sentences:

1. Vast majority of students select dormitories as their new home.

2. Living in a university gives the students an ideal opportunity to be independent.

3. It's impossible for some students to tolerate their roommates’ opposite characteristics.

4. Staying on campus makes it possible to forge new bonds of friendship.

Compound Sentences: (remember to punctuate correctly)

1. It is necessary for students to consider different conditions for renting a dorm, so they
don’t run into trouble.

2. Dorms are not the proper places for students to study, but students can benefit from
studying in groups in dormitories.

3. Everyday Chores such as shopping and housework (sweeping and mopping the floor,
washing dishes…) could be obviously exhausting, and they are definitely time-
consuming tasks.

Complex Sentences: (remember to punctuate correctly)

1. When students are admitted to universities outside their country, they either have to live
in a dormitory or an apartment.

2. Students who live at a university become familiar with each other's cultures,
traditions and perhaps languages.

3. Although there are lots of limitations in living at a university, I would rather stay on
campus because of a variety of reasons.

4. It could be thrilling for a student to experience living with foreign students whose
lifestyles are completely different from him or her.
5. Staying in some noisy and heavily crowded dorms may not be suitable for a shy, quiet
student since he or she is not used to such conditions.
