“Age of the Computer”

The information age began during the 1800’s when Charles Babbage invented a
viable mechanical computer equivalent to modern digital computers and up till now it
continues to develop over the years. It creates a way for people around the world to
communicate in ways that we could never imagined.

The start of the information age many aspiring inventors became more creative in
inventing new ways to improve the technology that we’re using. Technology provides
knowledge for us that we would only normally get from a book or by actually doing or
being there. One of the greatest discoveries during this age is of course the computer.
There are many discoveries in the evolution of computer like the Vacuum tubes that
are glass tubes with circuits inside. It has no air inside it, which protects the circuitry.
The invention of UNIVAC during 1951 which is the first fully electronic digital computer
built in the U.S and was created at the University of Pennsylvania and it contains 18,000
vacuum tubes. The UNIVAC was developed and programmed by a woman named
Grace Hopper and she was the Recipient of Computer Science’s first “Man of the Year
Award”. Transistors these are used in second generation computers in 1956 and it
uses silicone and it replaced the use for vacuum tubes. The Integrated circuits this is
as all in one chip that is a transistor, resistor and a capacitor. The light bulb aside from
the invention of the computer one thing that we can’t live without especially at night is
the light. In 1878-1879 Joseph Wilson Swan invented it and was developed by the
famous Thomas Edison in which he added the vacuum that prevented the filament from
oxidizing and burning up.

As of today the computer and the internet has made a great impact on our
society and to rest of the world. Technology as I see it is able to change and transform
our society like now as I’m doing this paper I am using technology to type, basically, it
makes our tasks easier. And it will continue to progress and evolve over the years to
come since it is an ongoing process and there’s much more to discover.
