CAUSES of KICKS WARNING SIGNS FLOW CHECK
Insufficient Mud Density Drilling Break While Drilling (Any Warning Signs)
Improper Hole Filling Mud Contamination After Drilling a metre or less into a porous Zone
Swabbing Erratic Table Torque Prior to Tripping the Drilling String
Lost Circulation Variation in String Force While Tripping (any Warning Signs)
Mud Contamination Variation in Pump Pressure or Pump Speed After POOH 5% of D.P. Stands
Equipment Failure Pit Gain or Loss Half Way Out
Abnormal Pressure Loss Circulation At the Last D.P. Stand Before D.C.
Hole Does not Take Correct Fill-up VolumeWhile Out of the Hole every 30min
Pipe Pulls Wet After Pulling Dry When in Doubt !!!
FLOW CHECK PROCEDURES
CALL ALERT ( If while Out of the Hole Proceed from: Ensure Hole is Full… )
Hoist Kelly above R. Table and shut-off the pump. (If Tripping, position tool joint above table, install Stabbing Valve
properly, Ensure Hole is Full and Shut off Hole fill pump.) Divert flow to Trip tank. Zero trip tank volume indicator.
Monitor tank for flow for 5 to 10 minutes. If the Well is Flowing Shut it in Immediately. Record any Trip tank Gains.

PROCEDURES FOR SHUT-IN THE WELL

PROBLEM SIGNS (Mainly for Driller's Method First Step) SOLUTION
SHUT DOWN AND RE-ESTABLISH ACCURATE
PLUGGED DPP INCREASES DRASTICALLY.
NOZZLE SHUT-IN PRESSURES, THEN RE-ESTABLISH NEW
CP REDUCES SLIGHTLY AND PUMP SPEED DECREASE. CIRCULATING PRESSURES.
DPP DECREASES.
UNPLUGGED RE-ESTABLISH LAST ACCURATE CP AND
CP AND PUMP SPEED REMAIN THE SAME OR INCREASE
NOZZLE MAINTAIN NEW REDUCED DPP.
SLIGHTLY.
DPP INCREASES: SLOWLY IF ABOVE GAS, RAPIDLY IF BELOW
GAS.
TRY WORK/FREE PIPE WITHOUT APPLYING
BRIDGE CP DECREASES AND FLUCTUATES. PUMP SPEED DECREASES EXCESSIVE PUMP PRESSURE.
SLOWLY.
FLUID RETURNS DECREASE. FLARE DECREASE OR DIES.
DPP AND CP INCREASE CONTINUALLY. SHUT-IN WELL. SWITCH CHOKES. ESTABLISH
PLUGGED NEW CIRCULATING PRESSURES. ISOLATE
CHOKE PUMP SPEED DECREASES SLIGHTLY. PLUGGED CHOKE. CORRELATE PRESSURE
NO TANK INCREASE. FLARE GOES OUT IF GAS TO SURFACE. GAUGES.
UNPLUGGED DPP AND CP DECREASE EQUALLY. SHUT-IN WELL. SWITCH CHOKES.
CHOKE PUMP SPEED RETURNS TO NORMAL. ESTABLISH NEW CIRCULATING PRESSURES.
