Exploring Angles

Objective: to identify angles and classify angles

• to use the angle addition postulate to find measures
of angles
• to identify and use congruent angles and the
bisector of an angle
Essential Questions: How are angles classified?
• What are vertical angles,
complementary angles, supplementary
angles, and linear pairs?

Definitions:

An angle: is a figure formed by two noncollinear rays with

a common endpoint.

The two rays are called the sides of the angle.

The common endpoint is called the vertex

An angle separates a plane into three regions: the interior

of the angle, the exterior of the angle, and the angle itself.

More Definitions:

Acute Angle: measures less than 90o 29o

A right angle measures exactly 90o. We designate a

right angle by putting a small square at the vertex of
the angle.

Obtuse Angle: measures more than 90o less than 180o

130o

A straight angle measures exactly 180o.

Adjacent angles are coplanar angles. They have a common

vertex and a common side.
