Latest developments in Misurata, June 8, 2011


The fighting began early Wednesday morning, around 5am. Gaddafi forces attacked Misrata from three different areas, with GRAD rockets, mortar rockets and heat-seeking missiles. Freedom fighters said that NATO did not strike Gaddafi forces despite the heavy fighting. Only a few jets could be heard flying overhead. Al-Karareem and Tawarga, in the East

Misrata City A ship thatarrived from Tunisia yesterday, evacuated a number of the injured today. The military committee has enforced a curfew, from 11pm until 6am the next morning. Most of the mosques have resumed the Takbir (calls of God is great). Renovations to the medical centre have almost been completed. Also, repairs to the Misrata civilian airport to make it operational again, have begun. The electricity supply has returned to most of the areas after being cut off for two days due to damage by GRAD rockets. Water supply has also resumed and cooking gas is available in the city.
