1. Describe the gold of multiplexing. y Multiplexing is the set of techniques that allows the simultaneous transmission of multiple signals across a single data link. 2. List 3 main multiplexing techniques. y Frequency-division multiplexing (Analog) y Wavelength-division multiplexing (Analog) y time-division multiplexing (Digital) 3. Distinguish between link and a channel multiplexing y Link is a physical path y Channel is the proportion of the link that carries the transmission between even pair of lines y 1 link and can many channel 4. Which of the 3 multiplexing techniques is are use the combine analog signal? Which of the 3 Multiplexing techniques is (are) use the combine digital signal? y For Analog: FDM and WDM(share bandwidth) y For digital: TDM(share time) 5. Define analog hierarchy used by Telephone Company and list the different level of the hierarchy. y The analog hierarchy uses voice channel. (group, group, muster group, jumbo group) y Telephone companies have multiplexing analog signal from low-bandwidth to high-bandwidth line. 6. Define digital hierarchy used by Telephone Company and list the different level of the hierarchy. y Digital uses DS-0 (64 Kbps),DS-1 (1.544 Mbps),DS-2(6.312 Mbps),DS3 (44.376 Mbps), andDS-4 (274.176 Mbps). y Telephone companies have multiplexing digital signal from low rate data to high-bandwidth line. 7. Which of the 3 multiplexing techniques is common for fiber optic link? Explain the reason. y It is Wavelength-division multiplexing (WAM) because it designs to use with high-data-rate. Optic fiber data rate id higher than metallic transmission cable y 8. Distinguish between multilevel TMD and multi slot TMD, and pulse-stuffed TMD. y Multilevel TDM is used when the data rate of an input line is a multiple of others (make it lower) y Multi slot TMD is used when many slot in a frame produce 1 single line.(make it higher)

Pulse-stuffed TMD is used when bit rate sort are not multiple. So we add dummy to make it the same. (make it equal)

9. Distinguish between synchronous and statistical TMD. y In synchronous TMD each input condition has allotment even if it it not sending data. y In statistical TMD, slots are dynamically allocated to improve bandwidth efficiency. 10. Define spread spectrum and its gold. List 2 spectrum techniques. y Spread spectrum is when multiplexing combined signal from several source achieve bandwidth efficiency. Spectrums are design to used in wireless application. y Two spectrum techniques are FHSS and DDSS. 11. Define FHSS and explain how it achieves bandwidth spreading.
y

The frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technique usesM different carrier frequencies that are modulated by the source signal. At one moment, the signal modulates one carrier frequency; at the next moment, the signal modulates another carrier frequency.

12. Define DDSS and explain how it achieves bandwidth spreading.

y

The direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) technique expands the bandwidth of the original signal. It replaces each dat a bit withn bits using a spreading code
