Description
1-4 Drivers are fully loaded for lab. Set-up check made. Hold strategy meeting with Miller. Discuss lab schedule for illustrating. Coordinate all teachers to organize class teams to write, illustrate, and narrate collaboratively 21 different How-To stories using technology tools by five 4th grade classes and three 5th grade classes. These tools consist of MS Word document software, digital drawing Paint.Net program, multimedia Photostory program, and Audacity sound editing and recording program. Wacom digital pen and tablets, microphones and drawing techniques were set-up and shared with computer lab to produce the illustrations drawn by 21 5th Grade student groups of five students (average group size). 4 hrs 1-6 Instruct in three normal 45-minute lab sessions the first stage of illustrating digital stories by three separate 5th Grade classes. Explain how each should illustrate from the story handouts. A concise and short tutorial explains how to use the new pen and tablets to draw directly into the computer using pens, color, and layers from a familiar elementary education drawing program, Painter.Net. The tutoring is ongoing throughout all stages of work. Student groups visualize the written story step-by-step, illustrating from handouts using Painter.Net with Wacom digital pen and tablets. Creative ideas with clean line and basic coloring are used to illustrate each page with simple, easy-to-understand steps in the How-To stories. Students are encouraged to save often to protect work done. Specific file formatting is practiced for efficient importing of art pages into Photostory for the final multimedia work. Also students practice clear file naming, page sequencing, and proper storing for future retrieval. Most groups are able to illustrate a page or two in black line with little color by end of first stage. 4 hrs

She is able to meet with 4th and 5th Grade teachers in separate Grade-Level Meetings to explain what is needed for the multimedia story. Five 4th Grade teachers create groups in their classes that collaboratively write stories with compositionally guidance in their English classes. 4 hr Weeks Activities At first stage in lab the students begin writing, keyboarding story content, numbering them clearly, saving often and printing handouts for guides. 1-13 Continue to instruct in three normal 45-minute lab sessions the second stage of illustrating digital stories by three separate 5th Grade classes. Most groups are able to illustrate another page or three in black line with more coloring possible. 4 hrs Standard/Indicator TF-II/TF-II.F TF-III/TF-III.D TF-VI/TF-VI.E TF-VII/TF-VII.A

1-25 Instruct in lab second stage in which student groups illustrate in black line almost all the pages for the digital storytelling. Many students start the coloring process using the proper layer as instructed. 4 hrs 1-26 Diane Rose discusses need to modify designs and to make updates for Bonhams web pages. She calls back next day to say she found out it is AISDs responsibility to make their changes and updates. 30 min 1-27 Miller follows-up in lab third stage in which student groups finalize illustrations for the digital storytelling. Narration work starts. Audacity is audio editing program of choice to record students. Microphones work, do not work, and then work for Miller as she records. 4 hrs Standard/Indicator TF-I/TF-I.A TF-V/TF-V.D
