TRADITIONAL GAMES

THE TRADITIONAL FILIPINO STREET GAMES

The Traditional Filipino Street Games (a.k.a. Larong Pinoy) are timeless. It is the games of our
heritage, a national cultural treasure well-loved and cherished by generations of Filipinos. Even
in the modern age of computer and high-tech game gadget, Larong Pinoys remains to be popular
in cities and provincial areas of the Philippines.
In Y-2003, Magna Kultura revived the games, mainly as vehicle for promoting Patriotism; and, as
an avenue to strengthen family bonding and for enlivening communities.
The Larong Pinoy Program has two (2) major event operations:
1) The Sports Clinics. Organized in schools and communities, to teach the new generation the
mechanics of the games.
2) The Game Tournaments. Conducted as mini-Olympics competitions in schools, communities
and private companies.
On top of achieving the primary goal of advocating the Games of our Heritage, these events provide
meaningful jobs with reasonable livelihood income among citizens who are mainly out-of-school
youths and jobless adults --- working as event staff, coordinators, game instructors, marshals, and
referee-officials during competitions. To many, the event jobs that the Larong Pinoy program
provides has become steady employment. It has also become fulfilling in many ways, as they
become teachers, and proud advocates of a cultural tradition.
