Mediante iniezioni: la gonorrhea e le cistiti croniche (locali), eruzioni, infiammazione del epiditimo. Sir James Castle lo trov particolarmente efficace nei casi prue, dissenteria, e problemi intestinali. Essendo non tossico, il dosaggio pu essere aumentato da 1 a 2 o pi dracme (3,88 gr.) due o tre volte al giorno. Il Dr. A. Legge Roe considera largento colloidale tra le preparazioni pi utili nella pratica oftalmica, e particolarmente nei casi di oftalmia gonorragica, oftalmia purulenta dei neonati, ulcere infette della cornea, e ulcere hypopyon etc. (estrazione di liquido dalla camera interna e cauterizzazione, e altre procedure operative che oggi sono raramente richieste, mentre, se avviene la perforazione questa pi piccolo e pi trattabile, cheratiti interstiziali, blefariti, dacryocystitis, e ustioni e altre lesioni della cornea. Secondo questa autorit scientifica, la grande chemosi che normalmente accompagna luso del nitrato dargento viene evitata e, secondo la sua opinione, se fosse adottato largento colloidale in tutti i casi di oftalmia purulenta dei neonati, non esisterebbero pi problemi come vista compromessa o cecit dovute a questa causa. Ha avuto numerosi casi di cheratite interstiziale di adulti, nei quali lopacit completa della cornea ritornata assolutamente trasparente nellarco di 3 -5 mesi, e chiunque abbia avuto molta esperienza di questa malattia negli adulti, sa quante volte la vista rimanga compromessa permanentemente e di solito duri il trattamento. Sir Malcolm Morris ha trovato largento colloidale privo di conseguenze rispetto a altre preparazioni argento. The results of the study show that these clusters of small numbers of silver atoms catalyze ethanol oxidation at similar concentrations to those found in the blood of alcoholics and at values of membrane potential and pH that are compatible with those exhibited by mammalian cells... ...Alcohol has particularly harmful effects on nerve cells, and in the specific case of astrocytes it induces programmed cell-death and an alteration of the actin cytoskeleton. Following application of the silver nanoparticles to ethanol-exposed cells, the actin cytoskeleton shows marked improvements and cell-death does not occur. But Dr. David Weber, an infectious disease and public health expert at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, isn't convinced that silver resistance will prove much of a problem. Resistance to antibiotics occurs quite readily in bacteria once prolonged exposure to, say, penicillin, occurs. But there's little reason to suppose that resistance to silver would develop so easily, he says. An antibiotic like penicillin works by hitting a bacterium in a limited fashion, at specific sites. Because the killing is done precisely, the bacterium has a good chance of developing a mutation that would confer resistance. In contrast, silver kills microbes in a broad, unspecific fashion -- like tossing a bomb at a bacterium. It hits many essential points such as a bacterium's entire respiratory system. This makes it much more difficult for silverresistance to develop.
