Title: Using the SmartBoard to Discover Patterns in the 100 s Chart Subject: 2nd Grade Math Goal: Students

will discover patterns on the 100 s chart when skip counting by 2 s, 5 s and 10 s. Objectives: The students will skip count by 2 s using a highlighter and 100 s chart accurately. The students will skip count by 5 s using a highlighter and 100 s chart accurately. The students will skip count by 10 s using a highlighter and 100 s chart accurately. The students will identify patterns when skip counting by 2 s, 5 s and 10 s through class discussion. The students will count M&M s by two s with 100% accuracy. The students will count M&M s by five s with 100% accuracy. The students will count M&M s by ten s with 100% accuracy. Given a number grid with blanks the students will identify the missing numbers with 100% accuracy. The teacher will explain to students they are going to learn to skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. The teacher will animate the 100 chart to count by 2 starting at 2. The teacher will direct students to skip count by 2 on their 100 chart and highlight the numbers. Teacher will discuss with students patterns they see when skip counting by 2 s. The teacher will animate the 100 chart to count by 10 starting at 10 The teacher will direct students to skip count by 10 on their 100 chart and highlight the numbers. Teacher will discuss with students patterns they see when skip counting by 10 s. The teacher will animate the 100 chart to count by 5 starting at 5. Teacher will discuss with students patterns they see when skip counting by 5 s. Teacher will discuss with students patterns they see when skip counting by 5 s. Students will practice counting by 2s, 5s and 10s using the M&M s in their jar. Teacher will observe students counting and provide feedback. Students will complete an Exit Slip 1.8 so the teacher can gauge their understanding of the concept.
