PossibilitiesforexpansionoftheprojectarelimitedduetootherUnderwoodCSA sitesinthearea.

TheMMCdoesnotmakeaprofitfromtheCSAprogram,butUnderwoodFarms continuestodonatetoSDFSAaswellasotherMMCprojectssuchasthe garden/nutritioneducationprojectsatCohassetelementaryschool. 7.2AthleticsProject TheMensandWomensBasketballteams,throughtheMOUwiththeAthletics Department,havehadbodycompositiontestingviatheBodPod3timessinceFall 2010.AsDr.GilbertisteachingFCS608intheFall2011semester,itmaybe possibletoidentifyastudent(s)toanalyzethisdataforthesiswork.TheStrategic PlanningCommitteewilllookatwaystomarkettheBodPodtothecommunity. 7.3NutritionCollegeBowl FormerADAPresidentsMartyYadrickandDorisDerelianwerethisyears moderators.BoardmembersRalphJacobson,EmilyBursonandLouRubino participatedasscorekeepersandJudge.JaeMinMandalaprovidedsodasforthe event.Dr.ClaudiaFajardoputtheMMCincontactwithvariousFoodSciencejudges. CalStateSanBernardinowonthisyear,UCDavis2nd,CalPolySanLuisObispocame in3rd.CSUNfinishedinfourthplace.IthasbeenproposedthatfutureNCBsbe regionalizedbyDEPregionsandorganizeannationalfinaleventatFNCE.MMC staffislookingintothispossibility.Theeventusuallycostsaround$11,000,which includefacilities,awards,parking,foodandotherequipment/suppliesfortheevent. 7.4InternshipsUpdate AselectionofinternshipfinalprojectswereshowntotheBoard.RitamarieLittle willbegintolookattheapplicationsforthecomingyear. 7.5WebsiteUpgrade TheMMCwebsitehasbeenupgraded.Pleaselogintowww.csun.edu/mmctoview thenewinformation.Also,pleasemakesurethatthepropertitlesareappliedto everyboardmember.

10.0FinancialReport 10.1FinancialReport 10.2BudgetProposal201112 BudgetpresentedtotheBoardwasactualasofFebruary2011.TheBoardmade suggestionsregardingthelineitemsusedwhichhavebeenamendedontheBudget proposal.TheMMCreceivedtwofederalgrantsfromUSDAandHUD.TheMMCwill begintolookatgrantsfromfoundationsoutsideoftheDrownFoundation,including FederalGrantsandindividualdonors.TheMMCwillhostadonorsreceptionin December.AsofFebruary,theUniHealthgrantisstillpending.TheMMCExecutive Director,AssociateDirectorandAdministrativeSupportpositionswillreceivea4% payincrease.TheMMCcoveredthecostofavisitingprofessorfortheFCS DepartmentandtheprofessorwillwritequestionsforfutureNutritionCollege Bowls.

Dr.LouRubinowillremainasViceChair. 5.02010Committee&TaskForceProgramofWork 5.1StrategicPlanningCommittee TheStrategicPlanningCommitteeChairperson,RalphJacobson,presenteda summaryoftheCommitteesmeeting. MajortalkingpointsincludedthefutureoftheMagaramCenter,theefficiencyof programsandservicesandtheoverallimpactofthecenter.Somerecommendations offeredbytheCommitteeincludedtheadditionofFoodScienceandTechnologyas partoftheCentersgoals. ThefullreportcanbefoundontheMMCWebsite. 5.2FinanceCommittee Nofinancecommitteereport. 8.0ResearchPrograms/Projects 8.1USDAHispanicServingInstitutionGrantProject ThefirstyearoftheUSDAgrantwillcometoanendinJune.ThegoalsoftheGrant aretherecruitmentandretentionofLatinoStudents.Atotalof12students participatedthisyearandtherewillbe11morenextyear.LeidysLorenzowill receivethefirstGraduateStudentscholarshipthroughthisgrant.Duringthe summer,threestudentsfromtheprogramwillworkasLactationEducatorsat ProvidenceHospital,thehospitalassociatedwiththegrant. 8.2HUDObesityPreventionGrant TheHUDGrantwrappeduptheeffortsatCohassetelementaryschoolfortheyear. Therearefourcomponentstothegrant:increasingphysicalactivityduringrecess (Dr.MeravEfrat);increasingnonscheduledphysicalactivity,(Dr.TamiAbourezk andDr.MaryJoSariscsany);Nutritioneducation,(Dr.TerriLisagor);Gardening, (RitamarieLittle).

9.0StrategicPlan/ABProgramofWork/BusinessFocus Themostrecentplanofworkwillbeupdatedpriortothenextmeeting. 11.0ProfessionalEducation 11.1ADAProfessionalDevelopmentTeleSeminars TheMMCcontinuestoreachouttocommunitydietitians.Theproblemisgetting themtoCSUN.TheMMCwilllookatwaystofacilitatetheseminars.TheFCSfaculty isalsolookingatwaystoaccustomnutritionstudentstoattendtheseseminars. 11.2ServSafeTrainingProgram ThenextServSafeexamwilltakeplaceonJuly16th.Thereisnodefinitenumber fromCRA,butitmaybearound1020students.TheMMCcontinuestoworkwith theUniversityCorporation,providingthecourseandexamtothefoodservice employeesoncampus.ServSafeisavoluntaryexamforfoodhandlers,buttheCA FoodHandlercertificatewillbemandatoryforallfoodhandlersinthestate. AnatolaElementarywillbethenextschoolthattheHUDGrantwillworkwith startinginSpring2012. 8.3UniHealthGrant TheUniHealthGrantwillextendtheUSDAGrantprojectonceitendsin2012. 8.4CDCGrant TheCDCGrantwillserveHispanicandunderservedcommunities.Theprojectwill tieinmultiplecommunityagenciesandCSUNdepartments.Theprojectwillaimto takecurrentprogramsandstreamlinethem.StanfordandHarvardareother applicants,butsinceCSUNservesalargerHispaniccommunity,theoddsof receivingthegrantaregood.Thegrantamountis5.75milliondollars. 8.5McKessonFoundationLOI TheMcKessonFoundationLetterofIntentwassubmitted.Theprojectwilllookat assessingtheeffectivenessofmobilehealthtoolsinregardstoDiabeticeducation. TheMMCisworkinginconjunctionwithDr.StevenLoyandDr.LouRubinoatCSUN, aswellasasoftwarecompany.
