The Planning of Landscape in Housing Areas:

Landscape for neighbourhood community

Definitions and thoughts The reason to plan the landscape Planning & Design criteria Macro vs. micro space Designer roles

definition
We have begun to understand that designing our physical environment does not mean to apply a fixed set of aesthetics, but embodies rather a continuous inner growth, a conviction which recreates truth continually in the service of mankind. Good planning I conceive to be both a science and an art. As a science, it analyses human relationships; as art in coordinates human activities into a cultural synthesis. Walter Gropius, 1995

the reason
The Quran says that everything is created in due proportion and with an intricate balance (mizan). Humanity is told to discover this balance, which encompass the animate worlds, and within each individuals own self and then to submit the law and order of the universe as its other inhabitants have done. As nature provided both material and spiritual sustenance for humanity, and humanity should appreciate the forces of nature that make its life possible in the planetary system.

Designing for community, the basic design consideration: Provide spaces and activities related to the population age, interest of each age group, safety and comfort design. Outdoor spaces in housing area are mainly as meeting places and recreation to the population, thus, design consideration should emphasis: 1 distance to/from housing area 2 efficient pedestrian network 3 conventional and unconventional activities 4 park features 5 socialization spaces 6 Safety and comfort aspects 7 vandalism
