Creature Comforts Descriptive Writing

Objective Students will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about an object special to them.
Grade Level Expectations: 2nd Grade Standard 3: Writing and Composition Students will implement the writing process successfully to plan, revise, and edit written work Concepts and Skills Students Master: 1. Exploring the writing process helps to plan and draft a variety of literary genres d. Write simple, descriptive poems e. Write with precise nouns, active verbs, and descriptive adjectives f. Appropriate spelling, capitalization, grammar, and punctuation are used and applied when writing d. Students: a. understand and use technology systems b. select and use applications effectively and productively Read Creature Comforts: People and Their Security Objects by Barbara Collopy OHalloran Discuss security objects with children Send home note to bring comfort object to school along with homework describing the comfort object (creature comforts 2010) Take picture of sudent with comfort object!!! Model using homework to create a descriptive paragraph Use homework to guide paragraph writing independently or in small groups Revise and edit paragraphs with peers Type final copy of paragraph into word document template (cctemplate) Model using homework and/or paragraph to create a cinquain poem about comfort object (cccinquain) Type poem into word document template
