1(a). How do you understand by the term electricity? And state the functions of
it in a motor vehicle.
(b). What are the conductors and insulators? Hence state the importance and
5 examples of each
(c) Design the following units’ symbols of a motor vehicle.
(i) Battery (ii) Lamp (iii) Resistor (iv) Horn
(v) Generator (vi) Earth (vii) Diode (viii) Fuse
(xi) Circuit break (x) Supply.

2(a). Define a Kettering or convectional type of ignition system.


(b). Use the labeled diagram to mean 2a.
(c). What are functions of the following.
(i) Spark plug gap. (ii) Ignition coil.
(iii) High tension leads (iv) Distributor
(v) Roter (vi) Capacitor
(vii) Contact breaker (viii) Horn
(ix) Earth (x) Ignition switch.

3(a). What causes the following faults of a battery and signs when:-
(i) Over charging (ii) No charging or low out put.
(b) How may a battery of a car be maintained or looked after.
(c) Sketch a suitable labeled battery of a motor vehicle and note the main
function of it.

4(a). Define a circuit and give three types of circuit.


(b). Use your simple diagram to describe a circuit.
(c). Draw and differentiate three resistors (electric consumers) when fitted on
the following methods of circuit:-
(i) In series (ii) In parallel

5(a). Define the following terms


(i) Ampere (ii) Ohm (iii) Voltage
(vi) State the Ohm’s law.
(b). In a certain circuit, a current of 10 amps slows when the pressure is 13
volts. What is the resistance in a circuit?
(c). Calculate the voltage required to force a current of 3 amps through a
resistance of 5 Ohms.
(d). Calculate the amount of current flowing when a voltage of 12v is applied to
a circuit of 6 Ohms. END
