Kim is a native Kansan, born in Wichita, mother of two adult children Nicole (married to David), and Amber. She professes to have the worlds smartest and cutest grandson Myles Kim attended Wichita State University where she graduate with her undergraduate degree in social work (1992) and furthered her graduate studies at the University of Kansas where she completed her masters in social work (1995). Then returning to Wichita State University to complete her doctorate work in Education Leadership. As an employee with USD 259 Wichita Public Schools for 18 years she worked daily to be a voice for equity and change. She created and developed many new district initiatives, programs and departments. Kim organized and assisted in the development of the Wichita Public Schools 5-year plan Cultural Proficiency (diversity) Plan to address the education of cultural and racial differences of staff, students, families, community and the like. She

creates, develops, organizes and facilitates Cultural Proficiency professional development learning sessions and writes curriculum for organizations such as Southern Poverty Law Center/Teaching Tolerance and school districts. Kim has presented at several local, state, national and international conferences and conducted workshops and professional development in the area of Equity and Diversity. As the owner of Kimberly Johnson Burkhalter LLC, Kim works as a DiversityEquity Educational Consultant. She collaborates and partners with community organizations, businesses, school districts, university and colleges, to name a few, assisting in the development of diversityequity strategic plans, to enhance professional and personal skills, and assisted organizations in writing policies to address equity and diversity goals. Kim's intimate knowledge and experience in public urban education, resident of a diverse metro community, researcher, developer and facilitator on racial and cultural differences makes her uniquely qualified to as an expert in her work. Shes a critical thinker and challenges others to think about their own thinking.
