Building a Bridge
A bridge will be built across the river to connect a new highway. The type of matter chosen to build the bridge must have a definite shape. The particles must tightly packed in a regular arrangement so that the matter does not flow. To build the bridge, we would use solids. Solids have definite shapes because their particles are tightly packed into a regular arrangement. The bridge will also be steady because 4/18/12
do not use solids to fill the tyres because the particles of solids are tightly packed. The tyres will not be able to absorb the shock from the bumpy road. Therefore, riding a bicycle on a bumpy road using tyres made of fully rubber can actually be a painful experience. We do not use water to fill the tyres because the particles of liquids are close together. That will make the tyres full with a high volume of water. Therefore, the tyres become a bit too heavy for cycling. 4/18/12
use air in tyres because the particles of gas are totally separated. We only require a small number of particles to fill the tyres. Tyres that are filled up with air are less heavy than the tyres filled with rubber or water. When the bicycle moves on the bumpy road, the particles of gas are able to move between the space inside the tyre.
