The FIow in Worship

The Holy Spirit is the TRUE WORSHP LEADER. Nothing is most satisfying than a genuine encounter
with God through a worship experience that is indeed SPRT-DRECTED. The real secret to a Spirit-
led worship is to always seek to glorify Jesus.
37
On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "Let anyone
who is thirsty come to me and drink.
38
Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of
living water will flow from within them."
[c]

39
By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed
in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet
been glorified. John 7:37-39, !arallel Reference) John 16:13-14
23
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the
Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
24
God is spirit, and his
worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." John 4:23-24
How the Holy Spirit moves in worship is often described as "The Flow because He is typified as "the
rivers of living water. Take note that it is not just a single river but rivers symbolizing the variety of His
works as God has distinctly purposed for every worship service
t is very important to give liberty to the Holy Spirit to move and yet without sacrificing balance of
enjoying this freedom with order.
7
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
8
And we all,
who with unveiled faces contemplate
[a]
the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with
ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:17-18
The main goal of every worship service is to create an atmosphere for people to freely have an
encounter with God by the leading or direction of the Holy Spirit through music or any activity related to
worship. The worship team must be sensitive in discerning the flow of the Spirit in worship.
25
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. alatians 5:25
#esponsibiIities of a Worship Leader
1. Preparation
This involves preparation of the heart, spirit, communication with the preacher or people
involved, song line-up, technical aspect and other areas related to the upcoming worship
service.
2. Presentation
This is the actual worship service experience where the team and the congregation come
together in harmony to give thanks and worship God.
3. Preservation
Not just the preservation of materials/resources used in worship but maintaining a growing
relationship with the Lord and modeling a good testimony of worship lifestyle to the church and
other people.
:ideIines for an Effective Line-:p Preparation
. t must be od-birthed; expressive of the heart and direction of God.
2. t must be reIevant; expressive of the people's concerns and present situation.
3. t must appropriate; songs that are fitted to the occasion and cultural demographics of the
church. Different age groups will have different songs and style preferences. But do not
stagnate in settling with the people's preferences, slowly teach them to progress into new styles
and approaches and test their acceptance.
Appropriateness also means having the sensitivity to differentiate leading in a worship service
from leading in a seminar, a meeting or any other church activity. Different occasions require
different approaches.
4. t must be congregation-friendIy; songs that are not too hard for the congregation to sing. this
approach will eliminate the performance outlook of the congregation in worship leading. Their
involvement as a major consideration in selecting the songs and in presenting the songs (not
too low or high-pitched) will make them more participative and interactive in worship.
5. t must be balanced; the right combination of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs; old and new
songs; fast and slow songs.
6. t must be ripened; songs that have been naturally and correctly memorized and could be heard
mentally without listening to an actual demo. This will minimize the distraction from any
technical deficiency such as singing out of tune or forgetting the lyrics.
7. t must be credibIe; songs which are doctrinally sound and produced by people who have
proven integrity and with good standing with the Body of Christ.
8. t must be progressive; it must have a build up of the flow of the Spirit of God to prevent
"dragging the flow. Line-up of songs should leave an impact in the hearts of the worshipers
even after the worship experience.
9. t must be dynamic; it must have an inherent potential to be used in clearly communicated
interactive worship combined with the proper use of the flexible and fixed songs.
