Quantitative Decision Models I

Assignment #4
2006 Fall Term
Due Date: Monday, November 27, 2006
10:00am in class for the morning class
7:00pm in class for the evening class

Instructions:
1. For integer programming problems in Chapter 8, mathematical formulations are
to be provided in terms of decision variables (including units, if any), objective
function (max or min), and constraints (preferably with appropriate labels).
2. For integer programming models, either Excel solver or Management Scientist
can be used to solve the model. You are required to submit the SOLVED sheet
(either Excel or Management Scientist) to support your answer.
3. For questions in Chapter 10, EXCEPT FOR CRASHING DECISIONS IN
PART 3 OF THE CASE PROBLEM, please DO NOT use the Management
Scientist package. You are expected to solve them by hand.
4. All the question/page numbers refer to our required textbook, Anderson, Sweeney,
and Williams, An Introduction to Management Science: Quantitative Approaches
to Decision Making, 11th Edition, South-Western, 2005. If you use an earlier
edition, it is your responsibility to make sure that you work on the right questions.
5. Assignments are to be collected during the first 10 minutes of the class on
November 27, 2006, i.e., up to 10:10am for the morning class or 7:10pm for
the evening class. Late assignments up to the end of the class will be accepted
with a 30% penalty. Any submission beyond this time window will not be
accepted.
6. TO ENSURE THAT NO PAGE OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT IS MISSED,
YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAND IN YOUR ASSIGNMENT IN AN
ENVELOPE. PLEASE DO NOT SEAL YOUR ENVELOPE.
7. You are required to hand in your assignment to the section in which you
officially registered even if you usually take classes with another section.
Clearly label your name, student ID, assignment #, and section # on the cover of
your envelope.
8. Only hard copies are accepted. For students who have to drive to classes a
couple of hours from out of town, you may send in your electronic copy to me
before the deadline (i.e., the first 10 minutes in class on the due date), but an
IDENTICAL hard copy has to be handed in to validate your submission. Please
try NOT to use electronic submission unless it is absolutely necessary. IF YOUR
ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION DOES NOT GET THROUGH, THE
INSTRUCTOR SHALL ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY.
