• There are 2 systems of counting in the
Philippines:
1. decimal system
2. quinary system
• This is used in more than 150 Philippine
languages and dialects.
• Only one dialect of a language uses a
quinary & decimal interchangeably.

and dialect as a system of writing.
• There are two ways of forming number
names:
1. the indigenous way
2. two borrowed ways
2.1 Spanish way
2.2 English way
Introduction
• In the Philippines only Chabacano uses
the Spanish way exclusively.
• About the paper:
– This deals with the indigenous number names
in the Philippine languages. It describes the
formation of the indigenous number names in
these languages from 1 to 999,999.
– The number stopped at 999,999 because
there hasn’t been an indigenous word for
million.
