degaussing

Degaussing means demagnetizing. Used to remove magnetic flux from the magnetized metal parts. The induced magnetic field can affect the electron beam path and produce errors in colour purity. To prevent such effect the picture tubes should be magnetically shielded

Here posistor is a positive temperature coefficient resistor. The circuit is designed such that when the receiver is switched ON a strong main current passes through the coil. After a few moment, less than a second, this current is dropped to a very low insignificant level. Due to this fast electromagnetic field change the interior portion of metal is demagnetized. We cannot able to see the degaussing coz degaussing happens before the electron gun warm up and electron it hits the screen

Pincushion error
This kind of error Distortion occurs due to flatness and rectangular shape of picture tube. Electron beam from the electron gun to reach the phosphorous screen (all the points of the screen) will not be the uniform distance. Compare to centre of the screen, the edge is far away. Due to uniform deflection field when it scans the far screen, a distorted raster will occur. see the bow like image when electrons deflects on the screen (see fig) This distortion is called pincushion error

Pincushion error correction

To avoid this error, pincushion error correction magnet is placed in the yoke or deflection field is placed in pincushion shape to avoid the pincushion error. The field produced by this type of magnet gives maximum deflection and straighten the beam (raster) to avoid pincushion error. Also by changing the current supplied to the deflection coil, beam scanning position can be changed and pincushion error can be avoided
