RE: Impact of State Budget Cuts on Adult Day Health Care Services Dear, When I was a Member of the State Assembly, I saw first-hand how critical Adult Day Health Care facilities are for seniors and adults with disabilities in Los Angeles and throughout our state. I also clearly understood the societal value and budgetary importance of avoiding institutional care and allowing family members to remain employed. When funding for ADHC facilities was under attack in the state budget negotiations in 2009, I fought hard to preserve that funding and ensure that your facility can continue to provide a vital service. As you know, the California Legislature significantly reduced funding for ADHC facilities in the budget for the current fiscal year. This reduction unquestionably will have significant adverse impacts on the people of Los Angeles. I am the Chair of the Los Angeles City Council Committee on Arts, Parks and Neighborhoods, which has jurisdiction over all issues relating to aging, disabilities, senior services and health care. As such, I wanted to make sure you know that on Wednesday, November 2, the City Council will debate and discuss a report from the Department of Aging on the impact of the reduced funding and potential options to address those impacts. I am writing to encourage you to attend that discussion and, if you wish, offer testimony to the Council on the impact the funding reduction will have on our communities and express how critical is the care that you provide to your beneficiaries.

Thank you for your role in providing a safety net to thousands of families throughout Los Angeles. I hope you will participate in the Councils discussion, and I look forward to working with you to ensure that this City treats its aging and disabled residents with respect and dignity. Very truly yours,

PAUL KREKORIAN Councilmember, 2nd District
