History Memory and Narrative in Contemporary Balkan Cinema Assignment: Analytical Reading of a Film Article (15% of overall grade) Date of Submission: Wednesday 25th October (No later than 5.00 pm) Assignment Description Write a critical analysis of Caroline Koebels article Torture, Maternity, and Truth in Jamila Zbanics Grbavica: Land of My Dreams. Jumpcut, 51 (2009) or Niobe Thompsons review article Understanding the Gulf: Tony Gatlifs Gadjo dilo. Central Europe Review 2.41 (2000). The two articles have been posted on dotlrn in the Handouts folder. Your analysis should be: approximately 800 words in length, double line spaced and on a single side of paper fully referenced according the MLA (7th edition) On the upper left hand corner indicate your name, course, semester, instructor, date and type of assignment; single line spaced. Right below this (and centered) include an original and brief title that accurately reflects your reading of the article (as separate from type of assignment). No fancy fonts. No plastic covers; only stapled pages. The essay must be submitted to www.turnitin.com Your analysis should: give a detailed account of the arguments presented in the article, give your own view of these arguments based on your viewing of the film, the presentation notes and the class discussion, discuss the style and form of the article and how this relates to the film (if appropriate), draw on other reading and material where appropriate. Remember your analysis needs to focus on the article and the film itself, any arguments you put forward must be supported through references to the text. Do NOT provide a plot summary of the film for this assignment.
