EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
STACK EMISSION TESTING OF TWO (2) DOH INCINERATORS.
The World Health Organization has contracted Calrecovery, Inc. to conduct
stack emission testing of DOH incinerators. The incinerators sites are located at Dr.
Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Medical Center in Cabanatuan City and Batangas Regional
Hospital in Batangas City.
Findings.
‘The following are the major findings and conclusions of the stack emission testing:
1. There are substantial difference in concentrations of pollutants emitted between
steady state operation and when the charging door is opened to load more
medical wasie.-{See-Annex A)
2. The two incinerators emitted substantial concentration of_particulates, HCL,
dioxins and furans. (See Annex 8).
3. The emissions from PUGMRMC incinerator were generally oreater than those
from the Batangas Regional Hospital incinerator. (See Annex B).
Conclusions /‘Aec omnia Jobe?
Calrecovery has identified several recommend:
ns, as follows:
4. Discarded metallic items should not be incinerated because they uneccessarily
contribute to the concentrations of heavy metals in incinerator feedstock.
2. The incinerator charging doors should not be opened anymore than absolutely
necessary.
3. Exploration of potential modifications in operating conditions to minimize the
length of time of exposure of organic compounds.
4. Investigate the sources and materials that are contributing to the concentration
of chlorine in the medical waste.MEMORANE

The purpose of the testing program was to determine the emissions from the
