In-wall Speaker Installation

(Pair)

In-wall speakers are the speakers used in an Audio or


Audio/Video distribution system when in-ceiling speakers
Overview
are not an option. It is common to find them in rooms that
have a coffered ceiling, or rooms with a very high ceiling.

1. Speaker wire (16-4 AWG)

2. Pair of in-wall speakers

1. Wire strippers/cutters

2. Phillips head screwdriver

Skill Level Intermediate

Instructions:
1. Remove the metal ring from the speaker brackets.
2. Locate the end of the speaker wire.
3. Strip back about 4” from the end of the wire.
4. Cut off the unused pair of wire.
a. If the end of the wire is in the location of the right speaker, cut the green and white wires off
at the jacket.
b. If the end of the wire is in the location of the left speaker, cut the red and black wires off at
the jacket.
5. Strip back approximately ½” of each individual wire, revealing the copper conductor.
6. Insert the 2 conductors into the corresponding spring loaded wire connectors on the back of the
speaker.
a. If location is a right speaker:
i. Red wire to Red connector
ii. Black wire to Black connector
b. If location is a left speaker:
i. White wire to Red connector
ii. Green wire to Black connector
7. Insert the speaker into the wall.
8. Tighten the 4 screws in the speaker until the speaker is held tightly in the wall.
9. Insert to the speaker grill into the speaker.
10. Locate the “looped” end of the speaker wire in the other speaker location.
11. Strip back approximately 5” in the middle of the wire loop.
12. Cut the unused pair towards the side of the 5” gap that leads to the other speaker.
a. If the looped end of the wire is in the location of the right speaker, cut the red and black pair.
b. If the looped end of the wire is in the location of the left speaker, cut the green and white pair.
13. Strip back approximately ½” of each individual wire to reveal the copper conductors.
14. Insert the 2 conductors into the corresponding spring loaded wire connectors on the back of the
speaker.
a. If location is a right speaker:
i. Red wire to Red connector
ii. Black wire to Black connector
b. If location is a left speaker:
i. White wire to Red connector
ii. Green wire to Black connector
15. Insert the speaker into the wall.
16. Tighten the 4 screws in the speaker until the speaker is held tightly in the wall.
17. Insert the speaker grill into the speaker.
